#OctPoWriMo Day 2/Photo Challenge: Tankas – “ Safari Silence” #amwritingpoetry #PhotoChallenge

For OctPoWriMo Day 2, the Prompt is focused on sending ‘notes’ and the multiple POV’s that can be included in the word ‘You.’ It also focuses on brevity of form. Also, combining with NEKNEERAJ’s MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie Photo Challenge! I change POV, that’s how I chose to respond to this Prompt, with the tanka form.

“A tanka is another Japanese form of poetry that follows a syllable format. This poem is composed of a syllable pattern of 5,7,5,7,7.”

Beneath a Safari —

Sky, an orb of fire alights.

Roars, scatters, twigs snap;

The Serengeti music.

Another touch of awe at night.

*****

Our fire crackles, we’re —

Speechless as the moon gleams near.

Giant, orange planet-like,

Like it’s not smaller than earth;

As if it’s a world itself.

*****

My feet throb, my legs —

Tremble with need to sit; to rest.

But, our lunar friend,

Is rarely thus; he hardly —

Brushes close; glows white-fire bright.

*****

Yet, we can’t answer —

The calling of dreams replete.

We’re trapped in moments.

Singular, epic, rare as —

Safari silence that numbs.

Ground Control isn’t —

Earth a brilliant blue?

Aloft in tin can,

I lived, but for what?

Stars flare, blind in space.

*****

Ground Control, it’s Tom,

Capsules shut, I guess I’m stuck.

Yes, the circuits dead,

The Moon’s nearer too;

Our atmosphere fades; I’m scared.

*****

Ground Control, my wife?

You convinced us astronauts could,

Defy space’s void.

But, there’s nothing to —

Do — weightless, adrift; I’m still.

Day 2 – NaPoWriMo/A to Z Challenge: Poem – Tankas – “Recipes and Baking” #amwriting #poetry #NaPoWriMo #AtoZchallenge

Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt is a poem inspired by, or in the form of, a recipe! It can be a recipe for something real, like your grandmother’s lemon chiffon cake, or for something imaginary, like a love potion or a spell. The quote was is by Bob Spitz for B about Julia Child’sand her  cooking for the A to Z Challenge.

———–

Credit: http://www.dreamstime.com

———–

“The cooking was invigorating, joyous. For Julia, the cooking fulfilled the promises that Le Cordon Bleu had made but never kept. Where Le Cordon Bleu always remained rooted in the dogma of French cuisine, Julia strove to infuse its rigors with new possibilities and pleasures. It must have felt liberating for her to deconstruct Carême and Escoffier, respecting the traditions and technique while correcting the oversight. “To her,” as a noted food writer indicated, “French culinary tradition was a frontier, not a religion.” If a legendary recipe could be improved upon, then let the gods beware.”

― Bob Spitz, Dearie: The Remarkable Life of Julia Child

———–

Recipes we shared,

How to make it through the day;

Standing up for those–

Requiring a healing—

Touch: letting yourself let go.

——–

Is there a recipe,

A formulation for life?

Mixing ingredients,

Brown sugar, eggs, vanilla.

Soda or powder to rise.

——–

Bakings a pastime,

In the kitchen with great-grandma,

Then with my grandma.

Later baking confections,

With my Mom and her methods.

——-

One starts to know what,

Each person loves best,

Correctly; knowing —

Small portions grow bigger; the —

Scent of cinnamon inhaled.

——-

On some occasions,

A person needs to bake sweet cookies.

Decadent brownies,

During the holidays with,

Rich chocolate icing too.

——–

Baking has taught me,

Life’s no slice of mouth-watering

Chocolate cake, but there —

Are times when a recipe,

Is what gets you through.

—–

Endorphins, sugar,

A wretched day can be healed.

There’s a tomorrow,

Chocolate means it’s looking up,

One more day you can get through.

Collage Prompt: Poem – Tankas – “Not Perfect and Better For It” #amwriting #poetry #fiction

Thanks to MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting this week’s collage prompt.

Credit: MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie

——-

Poor little Anne tried,

So hard to fit in; she can’t —

Conform to their look.

Sense of presence in her glance,

Terror; they don’t know freedom.

——-

Yet Anne tries and tries,

To be a cardboard box just —

Like all the others.

Left alone at recess eating,

Ripe oranges, she’s exotic fruit.

——

But they don’t invite —

Her to their parties, Anne cries,

She doesn’t see why,

She has to be so different,

A plant from foreign soil torn.

—-

Anne grows into her —

Self; she stops being afraid,

Sees her beauty is —

That she’s unique not like all,

Those other girls, loathing her.

——

In grade school there’s this —

Small boy painted in war paint,

His Dad went to war,

He didn’t return home, saddened —

Anne helps him; he remembers —

——

So years later they’re —

Attached — those girls all want him.

But his friend is his —

Love; she was with him,

All along; the handsome man,

Love’s different, not perfect Anne.

—–

Though she struggles hard,

Hoping for female friends, he says,

He loves imperfect her,

Because she doesn’t have to

Be ‘like them’; she can be good.

——

Then she starts meeting —

Others, women who become —

Her tribe, with her guy.

The gazes of jealousy —

Double, but Anne doesn’t care.

——-

Anne is as a bird,

A swallow singing sweetly.

She’s lively, vivid;

Her eyes shine bright; he loves his —

Anne, contently, completely.

#OctPoWriMo – Day 9 – Tankas – “Spiralling Nightmares” #amwriting #poetry

Day 9 Prompt – SPIRAL

“I love that you can find spirals from the tiniest places (our DNA) to massive expanses (the Milky Way) and everywhere in between. Free write about spiraling and see where you go – do you spiral up or down? Find where this word takes you and go from there.”

——–

http://www.thebuzzfeed.com

——-

Whispy visions form,

In our minds, in dreams, in sleep;

Foggy images,

Are we us in our dreams so real?

 Perhaps, we’re who we desire?

——–

Perfected, ideal.

No flaws, idiosyncrasies,

We save the day and —

Our wishes come true and life,

Is exactly how we would want.

—–

Then again most dreams,

Are ghastly and confusing.

People don’t make sense

You’re chasing someone or you’re —

Being chased — there’s no escape.

—–

You’re afraid and lost,

Your dreams, colourful, and vivid.

Childhood friends are here,

People you’ve seen only once —

Nightmares spiral, ripe with fear.

——

Facing an enemy,

Bully from school, or those you —

Loved, or part of you does?

What’s real? Will you remember?

Why do your friends hide and yell?

——

Or perhaps, you dream,

Much more serenely and feel,

A peace never felt,

 In waking hours never found,

Tough living life; then you sleep . . .

—-

Do you sleep enough?

Perchance to dream, feel refreshed

Or do you thrash and —

Scream, spiralling nightmare,

Taking ahold preventing —

——

No waking, no sleep;

Twisted and caught inbetween,

What’s real and what’s not

The savage territory,

Our mind’s fears torturing us

Photo (Collage) Challenge: Poem – Tankas – “The Mountain’s Wrath” #amwriting #poetry

Thank you to MindLovesMisery’s Menagerie for hosting this week’s double prompt:

Laura Bloomsbury

———

Black and white can change,

Become the most flaming bright of —

Colours; yet we’re like —

Dorothy on her Kansas —

Farm, not realizing life is grey.

Never seeing technicolor.

——–

If mountains are but smoke,

No one who said those words knew,

How burning orange and —

Yellow looks when your skin is —

Seared; the mountain spit lava clear.

Blew her top, melted downwards.

——-

On to the town who,

Had little idea but should —

Have known this day,

No technology clued.

Their mountain could release Hell,

Sulphurous smelling, burnt Hell.

—-

Poisonous gases,

Leaking down to the town folk,

No chance had they when,

Ashes fell like snow.

The worst kind of snow signals,

The ire of the mountain’s breath.

——-

In stores, on boardwalks,

Going about their day the same.

When she erupted,

No one cared at first.

But the ash and gases came,

Killing to begin, before —

—–

Lava reached familiar,

Buildings, the library.

Homes, grocery stores, work.

Yet the sky was filled,

She billowed out her smoke rings,

And she was just beginning.

——-

Threy should’ve known to —

Leave earlier but no one,

Takes responsibility;

To late to lay blame.

Run far and fast, lava spews.

Keep going magma flows, kills.

——

No Dante’s Peak is —

This; only mother nature’s,

Roaring and giving,

Life as she takes it.

Many die unaware, don’t see,

Never knew today would be —

The end: waiting done,

Here comes the promised one near.

Yet some survived it.

Never took lightly,

Those words: A Mountain is noth –

ing but smoke — they lived through it.

—–

Those who rebuilt knew,

As the lava and fire burnt their —

Homes, loved ones to crisps.

Beware the mountain;

Geologists trained don’t know,

When she’ll yield furious wrath.

Poem: Tankas – ” Beyond Fondness” #wordhighjuly #poetry #tankas #amwriting

——–

http://www.pinterest.com

——–

Humaling, fondness.

Of extreme quality,

Fond for certain friends.

Caring, great deal for family.

Beloved Aunt; Grandma, niece.

——-

Searching deeper seems,

Such fondness as humaling.

Means fondness further.

Not merely affection heartfelt,

Special love given, which is free.

——-

Not feelings, fondness —

For your relations or friends.

Humaling, loving,

Your other half, their presence.

Emotions driving deep love.

——

True love; which locks two.

A mysterious connection felt,

Never the same with —

Anyone ever existing.

Causing heart beats so in sink.

—–

Time may alter love.

Authentic love, means no limits.

Makes you speechless, soft.

Sore secrets in open air.

Your lover, a bearer of your strife.

——

You know their secrets.

Share in joys and sorrow too.

Extreme fondness hurts.

It’s beneath the surface shown,

Hurts and trials woven with love.

——

Release one thread; help —

Your kindred spirit, beloved.

Sleep not in anger.

Satisfied; in love ’til death.

Not only fondness; in love.

——-

Your piece of puzzle,

Missing until a fated,

Day; you find them lost.

Together complete a circle,

Forever, love beyond bliss.

Poem: Tankas – “Semi Colons in Tattoo Inked” and Thank You to my 1000 Followers!

Hi happy Tuesday. Thank you! Thank you to all my 1000 followers, I appreciate you all a great deal and am so honoured to have you follow me on my writing journey. I received the badge which says 1000 followers but ashamedly, I haven’t figured out how to do a screen shot on my IPhone 6 or IPad Mini 4. But, you guys are amazing!

——-

The summer flu has hit, so lucky I had some posts mostly, ready to go . . .

There is an interesting trend happening concerning the use of semi-colons, that bit of punctuation our English teachers told us, we dont need to use.

Mental illness and suicide have given the semi colon new meaning. An article from the online tool Grammerly states from project semi colon’s website:

‘“A semicolon is used when an author could’ve chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you, and the sentence is your life . . . ”’

Please see here for the Grammerly Article: Why A Semi Colon Tattoo is the Most Beautiful Tattoo.  Also you can read about Project Semi Colon here.

——-

It’s such a little,

Mark of punctuation,

And all difference,

Makes; those desperate choose life;

Have semicolon tattooed.

—–

Life washing over,

As rolling waves, drown us deep;

Force within us break,

Desiring pain of life stop,

New chance; life doesn’t cease.

—–

The semi-colon,

Says, the story isn’t over,

Soul keeps on living,

Body keeps on struggling.

Living life; there’s no period.

—–

Life isn’t a simple,

Sentence written, controlled by us,

Life has complexity,

Harsh and wonderful–

Aches; but never choose end game.

—–

Countless stop their life,

More live to see second chance.

A semi colon —

Inked; life goes on they didn’t —

Cease to be; their pages over —

——

Flowed with more writing,

Characters transforming,

They lived through darkness,

Writing more and more, living,

Not ending themselves.

——

Begging others please,

Don’t chose an empty passage,

Live until you’re —

Dying; and don’t let the page,

You’re on, become a blank space.

—–

Tattoo it in your arm,

On those wrists you sliced —

Or somewhere else —

Holding meaning; your story —

Starts again; breathe life and live.

Poem: Tankas – “Nooked”

http://www.yourtango.com
———-

You damaged me,

 Running into me that night.

Long ago laughing.

I embraced you on sight and,

I wasn’t even nervous.

——

You cut into me,

There’s no way from damage I —

Could recover now,

Hit by navy eyes,

Broken by your smile.

——

You made me bleed-out,

As we became much closer,

You were my steady–

Rock; my foundation solid,

I believed in you, in us.

—–

You may as well have,

Torn out my heart from my chest,

Such trouble you gave,

Sipping kisses from my lips,

Arguing stopped; more blissing.

——

Your cure all for all,

The sadness, the splintered soul,

Holding me tight when,

Love’s making halted a while,

Caring how you made me feel.

——-

Your worst crime is your,

Deception; how I pass you —

And you see my eyes,

Smarting still from being blind,

Brittle pieces tapped together.

—–

Stabbed by your bass voice,

Whispering pleas, in dark.

Searching for the truth.

Finding only that you killed me,

As you loved; the little death.

——

Smothering with fondness,

Never realizing love needs,

Space to grow, flourish.

Became suffocating your,

Word, your constant touch beloved.

—–

I died inside with,

Prayers falling from lips you,

Bit last torrid night.

If space could give me freedom,

You’d agree, find the solution.

—–

Should we continue,

Though I know you love me dear,

I’ll die fast smothered,

Let us both relax in light.

You near, touching me, all times.

——

Let us both breathe from,

The days we both couldn’t be,

Five seconds apart,

Let us be even closer,

Distance, draws a deeper love

——

Reflection as we,

Seek skin and curves and muscles.

Beautiful to be close.

Never ever far away,

Face in your neck; nooked near.

Maydays: Poem – Tankas – “The Best Kind of Mad.” #Maydays #amwriting

——-

Thank you to K.L. Caley from new2writing for hosting #Maydays prompts. Today’s prompt is good madness.

——-

http://www.pinterest.com

——

I love that you have that —

Good madness, a bit of quirk.

Laughing and smiling,

I’d rather have you a bit crazed,

I worry when you’re lost, sad.

——

When you’re mad I know you’re —

Alive; your heart beating genius.

Found in Wonderland,

Where my favourite Alice went,

Your my Mad Hatter; my match.

——

Not everyone would get —

Your peculiar mind which bends, forms.

Brilliant, but held,

By societies normal.

I love your real craziness.

——

Genuinely you,

I never worry you’re fake.

You always reveal,

A hint of absurdity,

You finish my sentences.

—–

Your crazy begins,

It meets with my own and we’re —

Blessed to be us; home.

In our otherly world lost,

We are the best kind of mad.
