3. Nominate 8 fellow bloggers (were doing 3).

4. Ask 3 questions to the nominees

———-

Three Questions From Miriam:

1. What is your most memorable moment?

I think different moments are memorable at certain times. I think the one which sticks out most was the second last time I saw my Grandpa E. He grabbed my hand as I hugged him and asked if he still had a little girl to sit on his lap. He was gripping my hand tightly and suddenly, I remembered being a girl of three-years old sitting on my Grandpa’s lap as he drove his tractor to mow the grass:

He told me, “Someday Grandpa won’t have a little girl,to sit on his lap.” I smiled at him. I remember wanting to make him smile. Grandpa was serious. I told him, “You’ll always have a little girl to sit on your lap.” I remember the brightest smile on his face.

And as he lay dying I repeated that line from long ago to him. He dropped my hand and smiled. The effort grasping my hand had worn him out.

2.When was your last time of having tears of joy?

I don’t recall honestly. Maybe when the Oilers made the Stanley Cup Final in 2006. But that was a long time ago.

3. What do you like the best about blogging?

Sharing my writing. It relaxes me and allows me to have a creative outlet. I like interacting with other bloggers and seeing my writing and others writing improve over time.

——–

My Three Questions:

1. Did you ever have a favourite pet growing up or later on?

2. Do you blog to write or write to blog, or do you have some other purpose for blogging?

Day 7 Prompt: Tasty

Delicacies on my lips land,

Smoothly sumptuous ambrosia.

Chocolate soft inside so rich, not bland.

Sweet, dark sensuous aroma.

Moist soft cake, creamy center grand.

Icing with cocoa, melts just so,

Delicacies on my lips land,

Smoothly sumptuous ambrosia.

Chocolate intense taste I understand,

Crumbs of cake near mouth, eating slow.

One more bite, save for tomorrow,

Devoured, pleasure sweet, on hand.

Delicacies on my lips land.

Blogger Recognition Award #awards #amwriting

——-

Thanks to Sascha Darlington for nominating me for this award. I think we both have only recently began following each other and I’m pretty obsessed with her short stories about Clare, Damien, and Dominic already. She writes them according to whatever the prompt is that day for each story. It’s a complicated love triangle for Clare.

Check-out this recent piece here. I garuntee you’ll want to go back and read up on what happened before.

——

WHY I STARTED BLOGGING:

Well I’ve explained before, but not sure where. I was sick in 2008 to 2009. After a brief psychotic episode I had a depressive episode. I never had a psychosis again but the depressive episode meant I developed difficulties reading and writing (cognitive skills were impaired). I had to build both skills back up.

I’m an English Major from back in 2007. I wrote well and wanted my talent back. I started the blog to improve my writing, editing, and reading skills and to write about my ongoing mental illness — depression with severe fatigue.

I have worked so much on my writing, especially writing more creatively. I took writing courses online from WordPress and from certain extension programs at several universities. I have done years of Flashfiction and started writing poetry about a year or two after first blogging. Poetry is something I’ve wrote since I was small. I started learning and practicing different forms of poetry (sonnets, Tankas, Cinquins, Laurenells etc.) and doing not only free verse (which comes fluidly for me) but metered and rhymed poetry on my blog.

In January last year I began focusing even more on fiction and poetry so I could submit my work to different literary websites, magazines, and do guest blog posts; I continue doing this. I finished the first draft of a novel which took years to get past chapter four and now I haven’t had time to work on the second draft of late past chapter seven.

I also occasionally blog nonfiction about movies, books, music, current events, beauty, fashion, or maybe a certain experience or memory. My blog has evolved a lot over almost five-years. My writing is much improved and I’m so grateful that as well as being able to write well, I read well too. I read books on writing, romance, adventure, fantasy, and the enjoyable books published by my Blogger friends along with reading many blogs whenever I’m able.

Blogs are fluid things and they become whatever you’re focusing on at a certain time or place in your life. That’s my opinion 😉.
——

MY ADVICE TO NEW BLOGGERS:

When you start blogging, pick a theme that looks professional (easy to read from and visually pleasing) and ensure you complete putting together your blog as much as you’re able including contact page, about you, and any social media links, so your content will be automatically shared to Twitter for instance. You can put links to other social networking sites on the sidebars of your blog such as a directly to your writer/blogger Facebook Page or Instagram page on your blog.

My most hated thing to do on a blog is to have to search all over for a ‘Follow Me’ button. Put that at the top of your page and the bottom. You want people to follow you even on a whim so make it easy for them to do this. Also, when you’ve started posting, make sure we can see your other posts which are relatable or recent on the bottom of your blog or side – somewhere. If I like a blog, I want to read more. Also, pop-ups are annoying and unneccesary.

As for writing, don’t be afraid to be honest with yourself and in your writing. Honesty and authenticity shows through and is attractive to readers who seek to relate. Edit well but remember you can always edit more after you post –happens to me all the time.

Cutting your word count and doing Flashfiction is a great way to learn how to edit well and make each sentence count. Do prompts and challenges and write everyday, even if you don’t post on your blog. Keep your anonymity if you like, but I have found with blogging, through writing more personal pieces, you can help many people through their challenges in life with your own.

Make it a habit to follow and read other bloggers. WordPress is an awesome community and it helps everyone and their writing to comment on their pieces and in return make friends and gain followers. You can even reblog posts you love or Press them as a new post, share them via social networking, email, or print them out. Allow your readers to have these options as well, when they read your blog.

Also, be kind in your comments. Concustructive criticism is helpful for many but it doesn’t always come across as positive. So be careful how and when you use it and with whom.

Published Poetry On www.spillwords.com #amwriting #poetry

Today I’m excited to share with you my first ‘published,’ piece of poetry not as a blogger or a guest post for another blog. The website which published my poetry is called Spillwords and I found them through Twitter.

Please take a look at the website there are many fantastic pieces of writing to explore. I know you’ve read this poem before a couple of times but I’m so pleased it became  published especially for my Grandma Reeder’s sake, as the poem is written for her. She is I believe, ninty-six-years-old and despite a few health issues this year, doing fantastic for her age.

Here’s my poem on Spillwords: Your Wrinkles Make You Beautiful

Award: Epically Awesome Award #amwriting

Thank you to Paul of wwwpalfitness for nominating me for this award. I don’t do awards often but I keep getting brand new visitors to my blog from Paul’s nomination post. So, I should probably do the award. Thank you Paul it was very kind of you.

Rules:

Display the Award in your post, mention your nominator, link back to them, answer 5 questions and nominate 5-10 people.

———

Questions:

1. What made you choose WP as your blogging platform?

I chose WordPress as a blogging platform because a friend on Facebook used WordPress and I read her blogs all the time, and enjoyed her blog’s appearance and content. I had dabbled with some other blogger sites before, but I like that the WordPress site had many themes to pick from and appeared professional. Learning to use it was also fool proof. My second choice of a blog site would be Tumblr but the Tumblr blog site is a bit simplistic. I do link my blog to Tumblr. My user name is: Mandibelle16

2. Introduce yourself and tell us about your blog?

My name is Amanda or Mandi, whatever you wish to call me on here. I’ve been blogging for about four-years now. You can read about me on my About The Author Page here or on the right side of my blog I have another short About Me section from my Gravatar Profile. I’m from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and I began my blog to improve my writing skills and share and use my blog as a platform for a mental illness I was dealing with, and am still dealing with.

These days, I’m more interested in writing creative fiction, poetry, and a few nonfiction pieces. I finished my first draft for my novel, last week. It’s a paranormal romance called How Was Last Night For You. Yesterday, I made sure from chapter 1 on, you can link to the next chapter at the bottom of each chapter.

I also write a lot of flash fiction and I have been experimenting and learning new poetry forms this year. Additionally, I did NaPoWriMo in April, #Maydays prompts in May, as well as I’m finishing another round of Writing 101.

3. Are you a once in a while blogger or a daily one? I have become a daily blogger since I first started taking WordPress writing and blogging courses. Those courses helped me to develop my writing and to write something at least once a day. Usually, I think I post three times a day, but every once in a while I skip a day to work on other writing. You have to plan your writing schedule, it’s vital to being a blogger. I might be missing blogging days as I get into editing my novel in second draft.

4. Do you wish to publish and if so, what type of book? Yes, I wish to publish my novel. On my own through Amazon or with a Publisher I’m not sure yet. I’m collecting information and researching this right now. I think the novel will eventually be a series of three books all of the paranormal romance genre.

5. What is your favorite thing to do besides write? I like to be doing something with a friend or relative. Having drinks, sharing a bottle of wine, coffee, lunch, meeting at a Pub, doing some activity such as seeing a play, or going to the spa myself on a Groupon every once in a while is fun as well.

One Lovely Blog Award

Thank you to Mark from Colouring Outside the Lines for nominating me for this lovely award.

The Rules:

  •  Thank the person that nominated you and provide a link to their blog. (See above).
  • Display the award on your post of the award.
  • List seven facts about yourself.
  • Nominate 15 bloggers for this award and comment on one of their posts to let them know you have nominated them.

——

Seven Facts About Me:

1. I’m currently on an eight-day detox using some supplements that many people have had excellent results with. On the detox you can lose anywhere from five to fifteen pounds. And after, you can continue to lose weight. I’m going on the weightloss program but you can use these supplements to support an active lifestyle, help with issues such as fibermielga, arthritis, high blood pressure, and to maintain a healthy lifestyle. They are great products and I plan to do a post on them at the end of the month showing my results. If you’re interested in the redbox before then, let me know 🙂

2. My favourite yoga brand is Lululemon. The company first started in Vancouver,  Canada. The pieces can be expensive but I have found few yoga outfits that compare to Lululemon’s quality. Despite the fact, they too did have issues in the past, for the most part they make fantastic athletic clothing. I’m happy to support a Canadian company and I love to do yoga as much as I can. It makes you limber, stretches out aches and pains in your body, and tones muscle. The meditation aspect of it, while doing certain kinds of breathing, can be useful too.  I meditate on God and pray as I do this, I feel unburdened when I’m finished meditating.

3. I love beautiful art whether it is a fantastic drawing or a painting. One place I follow on my Facebook wall only shows paintings of different artists. It is one of my favourite posts to see when I log on. I love beautiful bright colours in paintings, with vivacity. I love to see all the different styles people paint in according to their personal style. Going to the Alberta Art Gallery is a fun visit some afternoons.

4. My favourite chocolate treat are dark chocolate mint melties at a chocolate store called Purdy’s. On the inside the chocolate is soft and melts in your mouth literally. I used to prefer milk chocolate it now I find I prefer dark chocolate better. Not only is it healthier for you because it is less calories, it has great anti -oxidants, and I love the flavour of dark chocolate. Pretty much anything ‘mint’ from Purdy’s is delicious. I also enjoy Lindt chocolate wherever I might find it. The best place to buy Lindt here (and the most dangerous), is the Lindt Store in South Edmonton Common.

5. My favourite clothing stores to shop at besides Lululemon, for clothes you can wear out (etc.) are RW&CO, Banana Republic, Anthropologie, Le Chateau, Loft, and Simons. I find when I sign up for emails for these stores I can always time my purchases for a time when there is thirty to forty percent off instore or online, free shipping online, spring/winter/fall/summer sales, and a certain percentage off or a gift card on your birthday month.

6. Both my Grandma’s are still alive and I am thirty-years-old as well as the eldest Grandchild on both sides. Grandma is eighty-six-years-old and Baba is ninty-three-years old. Both are doing well in senior’s homes.

7. I have two younger brothers. The youngest who is four-years younger is in University and doing a degree in Human Geography. He is an avid cyclist and his minor is in German. He is going to Germany this summer for a student exchange program. The eldest younger brother is two-years younger then me and works in IT. He has always been gifted with computers and has worked in the same place since he was a High School student. He received the extra-mile award for his hard work. He loves to travel and has been to Australia twice. I think he wants to go to Iceland next.

——

As for nominations, it is too difficult to nominate people I find because many blogs go award free after awhile. So I would like to nominate any blogger who is within their first-year of blogging for this award. I am nominating YOU for this award.

Questions:

1. What are you trying to accomplish with your blog? Or put another way, what are you hoping others will get out of it, or that you will get out of it?

The original purpose of my blog was to improve my writing skills. I still think that is an important goal in my blog but I’m also trying to develop writing pieces – even just ideas or beginnings of — writing pieces to submit to literary magazines/contests and for a masters in Creative Writing in 2017. I also think a purpose of my blog is to share writing other people can read and enjoy and to be a community thing where people read my writing and I’m able to read there’s and we can share insights. We develope a lot from what we learn from other people and their ideas and that has certainly been the case with me. I have had many great mentors on WordPress.

How do you deal with the inevitable frustrations of blogging, like posting something you worked really hard on and getting little response? (It’s okay to admit if crying is involved; we’d understand.)

Honestly, it is difficult to predict why people like certain pieces and not others. I’m always surprised when a piece I spent five minutes on and because it was only an emotional outpouring, I receive a lot of likes and comments. I think you have to hook the reader, you also have to be willing to put yourself out there emotionally because people respond to that. Also, commenting on other blogs and reading other’s work opens up new doors and helps you to connect with other people who maybe interested in pieces other bloggers aren’t. It really just depends on the day too. Sometimes people don’t have time to read a long piece but a short piece only takes a few minutes to read.

What is one way that someone has been especially supportive about your blog and/or your writing more generally?

– My parents are pretty supportive of my writing in general and my wanting to get a MFA in Creative writing. I don’t know how much of my blog they read. My friends are good and often read a post every now and then. A great deal of support comes from the blogger community, especially when someone says they like my blog and my writing and are happy to have found it. Also, I have had great mentors as I’ve said in the blogging community – Joyroses, PJ, Clcouch, Jacqueline, to name a few.

What is one thing you wish you had known when you first started your blog?

I wish I knew how important it was to read and respond to other people’s blogs. I have actually been going at this for four-years and the more time I’m into it, the better response from others I receive. Two-days ago I had the most likes ever. Even though it is a long process somedays, I firmly believe that giving people positive support in their blogging and networking, using social media makes a huge difference.

How do you find or make or schedule time to write for your blog? How well is that working for you?

Honestly, I probably spend too much time blogging between writing pieces and commenting but I’m on disability, I have time. I’m building myself as a writer and trying to get my name and work out there, so it is somewhat like a career a I do half-time. Writing is what I want to do with my life, so you have to put in the work and effort.

Everyone procrastinates at least once in a while. What’s a guilty pleasure that you indulge in when you’re supposed to be working?

Shopping sometimes. Or just watching movies or TV shows I like that I’m not caught up on.

What do you like to do when you’re not working or writing? Do any of your hobbies, or your occupation, feed back into your writing?

I enjoy reading a lot. I can spend days just reading if I let myself. I go for walks. The weather has been nice so it’s been great getting down into the park by my home. I do yoga, go on Netflix, watch TV episodes I missed, adult colouring, and drawing in general. I love fashion/makeup so I spend time looking at Magazines, on Pinterest,, YouTube watching how to videos etc. Love watching hockey and going out with some friends. I often take courses too, not at the moment though. All this helps my blog. It is new experiences to write about and new ideas etc…

Which holiday or celebration (annual or otherwise) in the country where you live do you enjoy the most?

Christmas without a doubt. I love finding the perfect gift for everyone and I like our family traditions and the delicious food. I like being able to celebrate with friends too and seeing people I don’t always see often. I enjoy wine and friends this time of year especially.

Since I love food, I have to include it here: Tell us a story about one of your favorite foods, like a special time that you made it, or when you first had it, or just describe what you love about it.

My Dad, before he had to become Gluton free, he used to make the most delicious homemade apple pies. They were so scrumpious. Probably bad for you but oh well. At the time I could work out lots so it wasn’t an issue.

Tell us a story about someone who told you (or implied) that you couldn’t do something because you were a girl/woman, and how you responded.

i can’t think of one off hand. Except if you are a girl, their is a lot of pressure around my age to meet a guy and get married and have kids. It’s a societal thing. Because of my health issues I don’t know if I can handle kids. People don’t get that. And guys can be really dumb these days, they think because you chatted with them a bit or went for a coffee, now you should naturally sleep with them.
