Imagine Dragons – “Demons”

——

“When you feel my heat/ Look into my eyes / It’s where my demons hide / It’s where my demons hide. / Don’t get too close / It’s dark inside. / It’s where my demons hide / It’s where my demons hide.” – Imagine Dragons 🐉

——–

Where my demons hide,

Where my demons hide.

Reflected in orbs of fire,

I can’t escape their growl.

You’ll have to lead my steps,

Don’t mean to singe your brows.

My Hellbound heat radiates,

Demon-man on prowl.

No escaping, you’ve seen them,

Here with us, demons all to foul.

Temperamental, disreputable,

Repellent, sharp teeth and jowls.

How do I escape this now?

Set me free of this prison’s chilling howl,

Screams in pitch black,

I’m absorbed by demon’s marrow,

They’re liars deep inside my eyes.

No more sweet kisses now,

They’ll eat you alive if you stay.

My inner demons restless still prowl,

Their lizard-like skin grates;

Eyes as red pits burn unsound.

Horrors of the dim; you’re too close,

When such desire through me pounds.

Sins of the flesh, love denied,

Demons reside, dank cavarns found.

Don’t get to close,

Darkness is eternal, unprofound.

Here my demons settle,

They screech, drink rounds —

Of fireball liquor, Whiskey hot heat.

So I’ll let you easily down,

Don’t want to hide the truth,

It’s up to you now.

We try to breed love sweet,

But miserly greed endowed,

My last gift, cinders of the mess we’ve made.

Didn’t know my fate was found,

Demons with pandamonious desires.

Masked beneath brimstone.

Don’t look into my eyes,

They’re black as tar, don’t get close;

Red fire ignites, tried to save —

Your light, but in fire it drowned.

Flames so high I dreamed,

Life would be luminously profound.

Such a bleak soul you’ve left,

I’ll never forget, I’m beaten down.

Couldn’t even save your light

You peered into my eyes — drowned.

Unless you show me how,

I can’t escape this now.

Where my demons hide,

Where my demons hide.

——–

“This will get us there, you’re sure?” Avery asked the Captain. Her hands shook and sweat beaded on her forehead.

” Yes Madam, as I’ve told the other passengers, who are equally as persistent, this will take us to the first step.”

“The Stairway to Heaven? I can’t believe it. It’s for real, isn’t it?”

“Well, Madam Avery, that’s what you paid all your money for. This is the only ship that can take you there. We’ll arrive shortly. Ask a flight attendant to give you some pills to calm you down. Soon, you’ll never need medicine again.”

“But, what’s at the top of the Stairway? Streets filled with glittering gold? No more crying and no more pain?”

“When we’re there you’ll know. Have faith, Madam.”

Avery looking pale and feeling dehydrated suddenly fainted. The whole idea of reaching Heaven by space ship seemed unimaginable.

When she woke up she was lying on a soft bed. There was a gate formed of pure gold and silver. Two regal guards stood nearby.

“You there, both of you, where is this? I was supposed to be in Heaven I paid a great deal of money to get there, ” Avery said.

The guards chuckled, “Madam Avery, don’t you know the Stairway and Heaven itself cannot be bought by humans.”

“But what am I doing here?”

“Quiet now. You’re in processing, they’re trying to decide about you,” one guard said.

“Decide what?”

“If somewhere deep inside you know Heaven was purchased for you long ago. If you know who bought it,” the second guard replied.

Avery stomped her foot, “I deserve what’s coming to me.”

The first guard shook his heads,” Wherever you end up, Madam Avery, you can be sure of that.”

Lords – “Liability”

——–

You’re a little much for me, see

See you’re a liability

Liabilities are costly

Liability, that’s you baby

Baby hurt me so much

Baby left me crying

Crying in the taxi

Crying until I reached home

Home, it’s what I though we had

Home, what’s one broken?

Broken I’m shattered

Broken, he doesn’t need to know

Knowing me, mistake were made

Knowing little, he couldn’t handle trying

Trying to dance in my storm

Trying not to be poisoned

Poison, he said that’s what I was

Poison, that’s what he is

He is poison destructive to me

He is the maker of harsh demands

Demands — I only meet my own now

Demands are so tiring

Tiring, he’s too hard to please

Tiring, he says I’m diseased

Diseased, he’s the one, making ‘us’ decay

Diseased, the man I knew gone

Gone amd there’s no more dancing

Gone, no more love in the dark

Darkness, I’m alone swaying

Dark and alone, dancing alone

Alone too much for him

Alone I’m still dangerous

Dangerous truth: he treats me as a toy

Dangerous and too boring

Boring after doing exciting tricks

Boring after our perfect summer

Summer in my heart hurts

Summer’s turned cold

Cold eating me alive,

Cold cause, you’re all gone

Gone so I’m on my own

Gone, I accept I’m a liability

Liabilities must be forgotten

Liabilities must be shed

Shed so as not to him expose.

Forgotten so I’m never loved.

Music Prompt # 8: Poem – Blitz – ” Real Violent Ocean” based off of “Calm Before the Storm” by Sarah Ross #amwriting #poetry #musiccprompt

Thanks to MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting last Friday’s music challenge. It was based on the song ” Calm Before the Storm” by Sarah Ross.

——-

——

Calm Before the Storm” – Sarah Ross

——-

Calm before the storm

Calm perceived, not real

Real quiet, crows flying

Real quiet, eerie silence

Silence is all you deserve

Silence before your fall

Fall from saving grace

Fall from your glories

Glories were lies

Glories were false promises

Promises fade, are taken away

Promise, the storm will be fierce

Fierce as the rain drowning your voice

Fierce as the thunder screaming

Screaming across the darkest skies

Screaming as lightening fires

Fires and hits you, sparks

Fires right between your eyes, terrified

Terrified of the calm before the storm

Terrified when I warned —

Warned you little boy

Warned you as clouds turned grey, too late —

Too late to hold your breath

Too late as water cleanses, drowns

Drowns your pleading voice

Drowns her cursed moans that flew

Flew freely, you cannot hide

Flew undisguised, I heard surprised?

Surprised the worst ain’t happened yet

Surprised the storm intensifies

Intensifies my thirst for revenge,

Intensifies my grief, you only see

See the calm before the storm

See the sky ominous red

Red as rage, passion emblazed
Red as my ripped apart heart

Heart of the storm rises

Heart of mine wishes you gone

Gone your presence

Gone, don’t let your presence be prolonged

Prolongs my misery

Prolongs, such hatred brewing

Brewing tornado in your trailer park

Brewing in the marsh, a wild storm

Storms create, deep dank of cruel life

Storms erupt in my tranquil ocean.

Ocean forms my monstrous storm,

Life, you paid the price in my maelstrom.

The Blitz Poem:

This form of poetry is a stream of short phrases and images with repetition and rapid flow.
Begin with one short phrase, it can be a cliché. Begin the next line with another phrase that begins with the same first word as line 1. The first 48 lines should be short, but at least two words.
The third and fourth lines are phrases that begin with the last word of the 2nd phrase, the 5th and 6th lines begin with the last word of the 4th line, and so on, continuing, with each subsequent pair beginning with the last word of the line above them, which establishes a pattern of repetition.
Continue for 48 total lines with this pattern. The last two lines repeat the last word of line 48, then the last word of line 47.

The title must be only three words, with some sort of preposition or conjunction joining the first word from the third line to the first word from the 47th line, in that order.

For more information see Shadow Poetry.

Music Prompt #6: Poem – Free Verse – “Not My Defeat” #amwriting #musiccprompt #poetry

Thanks to MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting Friday Music Prompt. This week’s song is “The Cave” by Mumford & Sons.

——-

“The Cave” – Mumford & Sons

—–

Your broken walk, your deceptive talk,

You meat-eater, man-eater,

Frigid walls of your heart echo without beat.

Cowardly harlot of bitter teeth,

Take all your bites,

Leave the bones picked clean.

Starving the peasants,

In your shallow retreat.

Malice, miscalculations,

Your sins they visit your neighbours.

The harvest is barren,

No fruit bursts eaten.

Devouring the land,

You think no one knows,

But I know your shame is complete.

And for some odd reason,

I pity the weak.

I pity your barren soul attacking,

Then, retreating.

I’ll not be the swimmer,

Drowned by your weighted pulls,

Clawing acrylic fingers.

——-

So I will hold on to hope,

No noose will scrap your delicate throat.

I’ll find strength in pain,

I will change my ways.

My name will be no whisper,

You will not be my defeat.

——-

My faults, my fears,

Pummeling my face.

But I am numb,

I weather the war.

The suffering you’ve caused,

Tears droplets from heaven.

You are not forgiven,

You cannot make me deaf,

I see all your faults and all your fears,

You cannot mask wretchedness,

Not change until it’s admitted.

——-

So I will hold on hope,

No noose will scrape your delicate throat.

I’ll find strength in pain,

I will change my ways.

My name will be no whisper,

You will not be my defeat.

——

I’ll invade the darkest cave,

Find your hiding place.

There’s no safety in your chambers,

Come out walking on your hands.

Do you comprehend,

The nature of dependence

When you see the Creator’s plans

The makers hands?

So much mightier than your,

Waifish fingers wringing.

Crawl and then arise,

I’ll ignore your Siren’s call,

Your voice a hollow sound,

Wounds my ears.

Aches my heart,

Heart of diamond rock.

Freedom’s a melody that calls to me,

A treble cliff in the sky,

Floating music notes that speak of remorse.

Your siren’s lure,

Has been escaped.

The magician knows,

Reality’s illusions.

——

So I will hold on hope,

No noose will scrape your delicate throat.

I’ll find strength in pain,

I will change my ways.

My name will be no whisper,

You will not be my defeat.

Music Prompt #5: Poem – Lunes – “Not Your Mama” #amwriting #poetry #musicchallenge

Thanks to MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting the Music Prompt every second Friday. Last week’s song was “I Ain’t Your Mama” by Jennifer Lopez. I guess next time I’ll have to pick a better song, no one was interested in giving this one a go. But I should write for my own prompt at least.

“I Ain’t Your Mama” by Jennifer Lopez

——-

I’m not just the woman,

Who cooks for,

Love, your favourite foods served.

——

I’m not the one who should,

Be waking you,

To work, every single morning.

——-

Crazy in love, partners united,

We’ve fallen apart,

Let’s glue the past together.

——

For a future where we’re —

Both committed; both —

Living life to the fullest.

—–

No settling into comfortable boredom,

Watching TV not,

Noticing each other, nor caring.

—–

Do some house work, it —

Will heat up,

The sheets; bring back fire —

——

And if you don’ t desire,

Changes or improvement,

Tell me now, I’ll pack —

——-

My bags; I’ll start again,

Because I deserve —

Better — I Ain’t Your Mama.

Flash Fiction for the Aspiring Writer: Clang with the Trolley #amwriting #JudyGarland #flashfiction

Each Christmas it is traditional for my family to watch Judy Garland’s Meet Me in St. Louis. The more times I watch it, the more it and Garland’s dazzling voice pull me in. By now I know the songs by heart and if not all of them, then at least the well-known “Trolley Song.”

The scene of Judy Garland’s character singing on the trolley is what comes into my mind whenever I see one and why today, I feel that I need to ride the trolley, wherever it may be going. Sure, it may take me places I have no idea where I am or why I ended up where I did. But it will also lead me to unexpected and interesting city jewels, waiting for discovery.

As Garland’s character in the movie  did not want to leave St. Louis but at the same time possessed a yearning to explore, I have a connection to the trolley and wanting to explore the city because of  Garland’s famous song and her character’s adventurous spirit.

Haunting music,

Tunes unearthly sweet.

He’ll wring emotion,

Notes disturbed.

Depressing songs blur;

His heart aches, yearns.

She left him lost,

She left him first.

Each night at Luna’s height,

He plays those notes,

Draining his being.

Souls quiver knowing —

Ballads the silver violinist,

Plays, plucking sorrow,

Into sunrise,

A final despairing note.

Three Line Tales: The Cat Came Back #3LineTales #nonfiction #music #memories

If you grew up in Canada you knew who the children’s entertainer Fred Penner was. Everybody knows and loves Fred Penner and his singing of our favourite kid’s songs such as “The Cat Came Back.” I was thrilled to have seen him live from about ten meters away on stage at a TEDTALK’S conference where I live in 2013; his message — music can save and change lives!

——

“The Cat Came Back” by Fred Penner

——

“The Cat Came Back” by Fred Penner

*****

Old Mister Johnson had troubles of his own

He had a yellow cat who wouldn’t leave its home

He tried and he tried to give the cat away

He gave it to a man goin’ far, far away.

*****

But the cat came back the very next day

The cat came back, they thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; he just couldn’t stay away.

(Give me a miao. Miaoooo!)

*****

Now the man around the corner swore he’d kill the cat on sight
He loaded up his shotgun with nails and dynamite

He waited and he waited for the cat to come around

Ninety seven pieces of the man is all they found.

*****

But the cat came back the very next day
The cat came back, they thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; he just couldn’t stay away.

(Give me a miao. Miaoooo!)

*****

He gave it to a man going up in a balloon
He told him for to take it to the man in the moon

The balloon came down about ninety miles away

Where he is now, well I dare not say.

*****

But the cat came back the very next day

The cat came back, they thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; he just couldn’t stay away.

(Give me a miao. Miaoooo!)

*****

So he gave it to a man going way out West
Told him for to take it to the one he loved the best

First the train hit the curve, then it jumped the rail

Not a soul was left behind to tell the gruesome tale.

*****

But you now what?

But the cat came back the very next day
The cat came back, they thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; he just couldn’t stay away.

(Give me a miao. Miaoooo!)

*****

Now the cat was a possessor of a family of its own

With seven little kittens till there came a cyclone

Blew the houses all apart and tossed the cat around

The air was full of kittens, and not a one was ever found.

*****

But the cat came back the very next day

The cat came back, they thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; he just couldn’t stay away.

(Give me a miao. Miaoooo!)

Sing it all again!

*****

But the cat came back the very next day

The cat came back, they thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; he just couldn’t stay away.

(Give me a miao. Miaoooo!)

Louder Miao (Miaoooo!)

Louder (Miaoooo!)

Little quiter

Quiter miao (Miaoooo!)

quiter (Miaoooo!)

Poem: Quadrille – “Glorified Symphonies” #amwriting #poetry #quadrille

Thanks for Victoria C. Slotto of dVerse for hosting the Quadrille Prompt. A Quadrille has exactly 44 words and this week’s prompt is the word sound.

In between silences,

I hear the bells ding.

Of clocks on walls,

Grandfather’s sonorous tone.

Music of smartphones,

Ringtone prolonged.

The whole song,

Chosen for meaning.

A sound defining,

Moments in time —

Television in the background,

Clash of words,

Tunes of birds;

Glorified symphonies.
