“I’ll Be the Moon” by Dierks Bentley Ft. Maron Morris

It begins so innocently. A few words, a few texts that turn into a few hundred. A few phone calls and coffees. A few drinks, and late night conversations. My phone lights up in the dark. “Where are you?”

“Just meet me.”

“Are you sure?”

“Kier, meet for a drink, for an hour, maybe two, maybe three.”

“Baby, I’m in.” I speed towards our favorite bar. Our relationship has never gone passed intimate conversation or eyes locked for eons, long enough to drown in each other’s presence.

Jovial talking and laughter ring as I open the bar door. I find you in the restaurant bar and stride towards you. Your smile lights up my heart. Elation and this feeling that I can’t name rushes through my veins.

You take a sip of your beer then, saunter over to greet me. Taking my cold hands you warm them, before grazing your against my cheek. Its silkiness causes fire to light inside me.

“Girl, you can’t take your eyes off me, can you?”

You chuckle and lean into me, forehead against my chest. “Yeah, I’ve been missing the sight of you. I keep thinking about you, Kier.”

Your words are sweet relief and our first kiss overwhelms me. I grip your vanilla scented hair in my fingers. Your lips brush mine, over and over. I nip your bottom lip, and the clammer in the bar disappears.

I’ve dreamt of kissing you often. Is it even real? Then, you moan and the kiss elevates, lips melding and tongues meeting faster, passion igniting in us both. We’re lost until a waitress pokes my shoulder.

“Hey, Kier.”

“Oh, Brandy. We’re kind of busy. I gaze at your swollen lips, preparing to dive back in.

You move away slightly, gripping my shirt, eyes wide. There’s enough room for Brandy to half squeeze between us.

“Kier, you want a beer? You haven’t ordered yet, there’s specials on tap or do you want your regular?” Brandy presses her red lips together and wiggles her chest against my side. Her scoop neck t-shirt leaves cleavage bulging out. I’m not interested and never have been. I peer at you, your biting your lip, your eyes narrowed at Brandy.

“The regular’s fine, Brandy.” She looks at you and freezes. You roll your eyes at her and she flushes, before giving a fake smile and swaying her hips, teetering back to the bar on red heels.

You burst out laughing and snuggle into my checked shirt and chest. You pull my my face down towards your lips, hands around my back, stroking beneath my shirt.

“Mmm.” I can’t help moaning. Our lips clash, the sparks between us explode. I lead you back towards the booth, where no one will bother us anymore.

We converse, make-out as if we we’re both sixteen, and laugh for hours. When your ringtone, a new version of “House of the Rising Sun” goes off, his name pops up on your caller ID, I try to hide my disappointment.

You brush your hand through my hair. “I’m sorry, it’s time to go. I need to get home. He’s wondering where I am.”

I hate your excuses, but sigh against your neck placing small kisses towards your velvet earlobe. You giggle pushing me away half-heartedly.

I grasp your small chin. “Ain’t no one gotta know. Please, Mer, one more kiss before you go.”

As you walk away and I admire your legs, leaning against the back of the booth. Your flash your sweet blue eyes at me peering back, before sauntering out the door. I don’t think you know how sexy you are, even when you’re leaving me.

I grumble to myself in the booth. What are you doing? She’s married and it’s going to get complicated. Then my heart comments. It’s already complicated, Kier, and you know it. You might as well see it through and see what happens.

Brandy walks up to me, sliding her hand down my arm. She’s young and attractive with glossy brown hair and whisky eyes, but she has no substance. She has nothing on your mahogany curls, plush pink lips, and your ironic sense of humor. I wave Brandy off and drink my third beer. I imagine you in my arms, somewhere we’re undisturbed.

*****

A couple of days later I phone you and we have our first fight. “I can’t do this to my husband, he loves me. We have ten years together.” The years in your voice are audible. You sound exhausted, frustrated, and you’re crying.

“So, he’s cheating again?”

“Yeah, his fifth mistress, that I know about.”

” Ten years, huh? I don’t wanna be a liar and I don’t wanna be a fool, but I hate keeping secrets. For now I will, if you want me to because I can’t lose you. Give us a chance, we could be so much more than you and what’s his name.”

“We are more. You’ve always been more to me than him, even when you left.” You’re whispering. I’m wandering if you’re hiding in the laundry room, so he doesn’t hear your call.

Your voice wobbles. “You’re all I have, he doesn’t know me like you do. He doesn’t love the me from long ago, or the me today. Kier, love me, don’t let me go. Someday soon, this will all work out.”

I shake my head. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I don’t care anymore. “Okay, Mer. As I said, I don’t want our relationship to remain a secret, but I will if you want me to, right now. Can you do this, juggle your husband’s infidelities and us? Sometime soon you have to make up your mind. A man that treats you like he does isn’t worth your time.”

Your crying. “I never thought I’d see you after all these years. I can’t let you go again. It ripped me apart when you left, that’s why I married him. I didn’t have to think about the hole in my heart when I focused on him; at least until his first affair began.”

“So, you want to meet up tonight? Somewhere in-between where you and I live? If that’s what you want, we can meet as often as we’re both able. I feel as if you’re leavin’ me in the dark, accepting you only as an affair. I want more, but if that’s all I get from you until you end it with him, I’ll take it. He can be your sun and I’ll be your moon.”

“You’re so lyrical sometimes. I love that about you.”

“It’s the truth. He has your days, and I have your nights, time permitting. But what happens when the two times intersect? He can be the sun and I’ll be the moon, for now, but not forever.”

****

It’s a nice hotel, swanky, and comfortable. You’re stretched out with me, our skin flush and our limbs tangled after hours loving. I kiss your forehead, brushing my fingers through long mahogany hair.

Suddenly, his ringtone goes off. Your phone lights up in the dark.

I kiss your cheeks and your sweet lips. You bury your face in the pillow, trying not to cry. “Gotta go. He’s wondering where I am.”

“I know, but it still ain’t easy. Just tonight, stay longer. Stay for the whole night. Say you’re at your friend’s place having a girl’s night after a hard day. Call your friend, Liz. She supports us, and she’ll back you up. Tell him you had a bad day at work, and forgot to phone hi earlier.”

“I don’t forget to text him stuff like that.”

“Maybe, you do, this once.”

You giggle, “Someone’s creative tonight. You must really want me to stay. I want to stay too.” You smile, plush lips brushing mine, before placing your head on my chest. I wonder if you can hear how fast my heart beats when I’m entwined with you.

You raise your head, your face is streaked with tears and you kiss me hard, not soft but with need. There’s desperation in your kiss.

You climb on top of me. “One more time before I go.”

I grin. Our kisses and caresses multiply, tightening the cord of our connection. Later, you’re gone, but I’m lay awake in the early morning hours.

My mind won’t stop circling. Tomorrow, she’ll be waking up beside him. She’ll tell him that you loves him, but I know Mer doesn’t mean it. She loves me she told me so. She doesn’t love him at all, she never has.

****

For over five months now, you continue to meet me some nights. Unexpectedly, we have the whole weekend to ourselves. He’s off on some business trip. You already told me he has a new mistress. I don’t understand how he doesn’t know he has the best of all women in you.

You’re splayed on top of me and we’re both gasping for breath. You pull the blankets up around us as our sweat cools, your head in the crook of my neck.

You bite your lip, peering up at me. “In my mind when I’m looking at him, and when I think of him, I don’t see us staying together. We’ve had ten years, ten years of what? Ten years of lies and deceit, now on both our parts.”

I rub your back in support. You talks about him lots. Thinking aloud, attempting to solve the riddle; how to let your husband know you want a divorce, that there was never love between either of you.

You kiss my neck, then my heart. ” I’ve been lying about loving him for years. I can’t stand all his affairs, but are we any better, having our own affair now? I feel so guilty, but at the same time, I don’t care anymore. He deserves it.”

“I hate this.” I don’t mean to sound harsh, but I have to tell you. ” He’s always the elephant in the room. No matter what you think, he’s never known the real you. He doesn’t see you for you, or the false life you both live. But girl, I see you and know the truth. I see you clearer than he ever will.”

I flip you over, resting on top of your sweet body and my forearms. “Don’t let this be a secret any longer. I don’t want to only be the moon; I want to be sunlight too.”

I kiss you tangling my lips and tongue with yours, channeling my will into our loving making. Between gasps you whisper, “Okay, Tuesday, I’ll see my lawyer.”

My eyes go wide and you giggle, kissing the joyful grin on my face. I tickle you, then my hands make the familiar journey down you alabaster skin.

Later I tell you. “I’m no longer the moon, but sunlight too. I’m every time of day with you.”

Music Challenge #18 by MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie is “Way Down We Go” by Kaleo and Im combining with Photo Challenge by NEKNEERAJ of MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie .

“Way Down We Go” by Kaleo

Way down we go,

Can’t lift us up oh, oh.

Way down below, beneath the blows,

We’ll hide our woes and find our souls.

But we may sink in mire as we expire,

As way down we go,

Trying to find life’s flow;

So, love me slow or love me not.

Don’t run me down, down with wild blows.

Way down we go,

‘Cause say we, way down we fall, oh, oh.

Way down together,

Far down below and I respire;

Our breath so close, that lips conspire.

To go down further, disperse our woes,

In life we try to avoid what hurts most.

Tell me, do we get what we deserve?

It’s better when I’ve got your back,

When your behind mine, and you hold me close.

Swaying back and forth,

In rhythm, and life,

‘Cause way down we fall,

Way down we go, oh, oh.

Here we go to the journey home,

Though down is such a far way to go —

We’re not afraid.

There’s nothing gloomy,

When your hand’s in mine,

Electric currents wired;

We hold are flow, the energy grows.

Are hearts on fire, we won’t let go;

No matter that, way down we go, oh, oh.

We won’t let our held hands go,

Your grip is tight and your eyes they glow.

Your lips they lift and your pulse beats mad,

Nothing this good could be called so bad.

It’s tough, sometimes when you explode,

When the down it holds,

When I let go and hide;

But new days keep dawning with azure Skies,

No matter that, way down we go —

We rise to conquer towards the surface,

Way down we go, heads held high,

And I promise you’re the one,

I’ll go to the ends of he works for —

So, way down we go, together into forever.

Digging ourselves out of holes,

Patching our broken souls.

Life’s not permanent so while I have you, we go, and go,

Way down so slow, oh, oh.

To grasp each moment, string it out–

To hold such love and not implode.

Way down we go —

No longer running each other down.

Resting in the hollows, the caves, and valleys,

Exploring the roots and tearing out the weeds.

Let’s say we, go way down, to the garden of glee,

And those happy places we render, and feel free —

When life is way down,

We never let go;

Despite falling down, we go, oh, oh.

Never afraid when we go together, rising through it.

Way down we go oh, oh.

But how wonderful it is to be struggling as one,

Down low, or dreaming of sumptuous flight,

Freedom more than we deserve.

Flash Fiction for the Aspiring Writer/Music Challenge: An Ordinary Girl #amwriting #flashfiction #musicchallenge

Last week’s FFftAW is hosted by Priceless Joy. Also, this is not the recent music challenge but the previous one, Music Challenge #19, with the song “Ordinary World” by Green Day Featuring Miranda Lambert.

Credit: Fandago

Ordinary World” by Green Day Ft. Miranda Lambert

Gemma was furious, she strode to the back yard, grabbing her keys from her purse, sputtering off in her old Toyota. She heard her parents both yelling as she squealed away. She exited onto a highway, then into New York, the city of shining lights.

At sixteen she desired her own apartment downtown, near the train and whichever university fit her design passion. A place where her mom didn’t search through her stuff. She had collected a great deal of buried treasure for her future apartment. Gemma was extraordinarily intelligent and had the marks to attend any university, with a full scholarship, even at age sixteen.

The sunrise blinded her as she drove past the downtown core. At dawn, she got out at her favorite park with the tree with twisted roots. Here she had met Ethan. Together they existed in an Ordinary World of small dreams and endless moments. He supported her but convinced her time and again to return home only for another two years.

When she came home after her advanced high school classes, she was besieged by her mom and dad. She gazed apologetically at their worried faces, trying to find the right words. She knew they had big plans for her. They didn’t want her to be ordinary like them, but it was what she wanted most.

#NovemberNotes Day 30/Three Line Tales: Nonfiction – Breaking the Shell #flashfiction #3LineTales #amwriting

For November Notes Day 30, the final prompt song is “Break the Shell” by India Arie. I’m combining with the #3LineTale prompt by Sonya of Only 100 Words.

Break the Shell” by India Arie

Hard decisions are frustrating, such as spray painting a mural and wanting it to be perfect, then watching it painted over in white the next day; but we can’t let indecision and fear hold us back as shadows too make a person whole. We want to live a life without pain but that life doesn’t exist because life hurts no matter what and is meant to be felt; if we stay inside ourselves, then we’ll never accomplish our potential. I am certain that flying free means breaking out of our shells to thrive and take chances; and if we don’t decide to try we’ll remain trapped on the ground, always wondering, what if?

#NovemberNotes Day 29/ Saturday Mix: Poem: Free Verse – “Myself Alone” #amwriting #poetry #saturdaymix

For November Notes Day 29 the song Prompt is “Just Hold Me” by Maria Mena. I’m combining the prompt with a second prompt by Sarah from MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie and her Saturday Mix Prompt, Same but Different. We’re using a list of words to inspire is but not using the words in our writing themselves. The words are: party, new, goodbye, resolution, and hope.

” Just Hold Me” By Maria Mena

Why won’t you hold me?

How come it’s so hard?

Let me lie back against you,

I need to here your heart beat.

I need the solid reassurance,

Of each steady breath you take.

Life hasn’t been a celebration of late,

Your forlorn coldness has me breaking.

Your eyes once toffee-soft have gone to stone;

And there’s nothing novel, your affection, your kisses, are merely habit — without meaning.

Rejection and loneliness surround me, there’s no comfortable silence between us.

It’s as if we’re both alone in the same room and —

The coldness of the year’s fresh beginning —

Has made your heart bitter ice.

Why won’t you hold me?

How come it’s so hard?

You know me so well, but somehow not at all.

I tried to hold on, keep praying, to have faith;

But our love is too broken and there’s no going back.

So I slip out the door, I’ve packed everything I own,

You won’t even notice, how empty your home has become.

I set aflame our cherished photographs,

I’ve taken your expensive Scotch;

Hidden your aged red wines in my suitcase,

Stripped the house of life;

Undressed it of every comfort that existed, being us.

I’m going to be brave and I’m going to start again —

I don’t need you to hold me,

Because holding me was a privilege, one you took for granted.

Enjoy your house devoid of us — of lost love and comfort,

For I no longer care about you,

Your icy heart has ensured I’ve learned —

To hold on to myself alone — and hard.

#NovemberNotes Day 28/Saturday Mix: ‘Manon’ #fiction #saturdaymix #amwriting

For November Notes Day 28, the song Prompt is “Into the Night” by Beacon. I’m using the the same song title, but by Santana and Chad Krueger, different musicians.

Credit: Patrick Kool

“Into the Night” by Santana and Chad Krueger

The pub was overheated and dim but Sam’s blood felt alive with promise as he sipped his third Corona at the bar. A slim woman wearing red silk floated onto the dance floor and he was struck still. The dancer was gorgeous. A gift from the Heavens.

Sam’s dark eyes held the beautiful dancers blue-green ones and he instantly knew how she felt about him from the widening of her eyes, the simmering gaze held between them. Even as she positioned herself to dance, the woman glanced at him. Then, closing her eyes she whirled, her footwork effortless, and her dancing lively, a dervish to a fast-paced song.

When Sam wasn’t looking, she grabbed his hand insisting he dance with her, entrancing him as she brushed against him with each complicated step. It was three songs before he realized every soul in the room had been keeping time with them, clapping their hands. Sam wasn’t a talented dancer by any means, but the woman in his arms, made his stumbling appear sensuous.

Her long golden hair flew about them unbound as they spun around in circles, the moon gleaming down from windows near the dance floor. Sam spun the woman one last time, lifting her body against him, before the tenth song ended.

“What’s your name?”

“Manon.”

“I’ve never meant a woman as beautiful as you dancing, Manon.”

“Thank you, but I think that’s an overused pick-up line on me, ” she laughed winking at him. “What’s your name?”

“My friends call me Sam.”

Manon smiled. “I’m glad to be your friend, Sam.”

They continued dancing at a slower pace, finally, noticing the couples and groups of friends on the dance floor beside them.

She snuggled her head into the crook of his neck. “It’s easy to lose track of time, dancing through the night, singing along with you to the music.”

Sam grinned, “I don’t sing much, but I know the words to the songs.”

Manon brushed her hair back from her smooth face perspiring. After a couple of more songs, she stopped dancing for a a few minutes. Sam left, retrieving some vodka-water limes for them both.

Manon took an indulgent sip and grinned. “You say you know the right words to these songs, but do you know the right words to ask me, next?”

She put down her empty drink and looped her arms around Sam’s neck. They swayed slowly, no room between their bodies but her silk dress and his button down.

Sam inhaled Manon’s jasmine perfume. “I know what I’d like to ask you, Manon. What I’d ask any beautiful woman in my arms, but you’re not just any beautiful woman.”

“You’re saying the right words so far.”

He laughed, “What I was thinking was that maybe I could take you for an early breakfast and we could talk. Then, I could drive you home and you could give me your phone number. After, we could go on date number two in a day or so.”

” I’d love that, Sam. I’m a little surprised you didn’t ask to take me home and stay.”

“Would you have said, yes?”

Manon blushed, ” I’ll never tell,” but Sam knew the truth.

“I want to get to know you, Manon, and this kind of knowing takes more than one night; it’s old-fashioned, I guess.”

Manon’s smile was radiant. “Old-fashioned is new for me. Few men have ever wanted to actually know me or have taken the time before we even, you know.”

Sam chuckled and kissed her knuckles. “Old-fashioned is new for me too and it was there loss, just so you know.

Manon slipped her arm through Sam’s and they strolled off the dance floor laughing about what they both craved for breakfast.

#NovemberNotes Day 27/ Three Line Tales: Fiction – “Memories Hiding Cannot be Seeked” #amwriting #3LineTales

For November Notes Day 27 the Prompt song is “Hide and Seek” by Fatai but I’m using the song of the same title by the group Imagone Heap. I’m combining the song prompt with #3LineTales from Sonya of Only 100 Words for January 4, 2018.

“Hide and Seek” by Imagone Heap

Josse’s murmuring nonsense in his sleep except for the number, “850, 850 . . . ;” then, waking up he looks at me rasping, where are we and what the hell is going on — I rub my eyes and think this can’t be happening, can it?

I try to appear sympathetic as I do every time Josse wakes up asking, but before I can speak he yells, “Hide and seek, all these games, trains and sewing machines — life has gone still, everything is so still, why, Claire?”

Sighing, I wish I could explain how much things have altered since his accident, but each day I do he forgets and I’m listless from losing him repeatedly, from reassuring him that we’ve been safe for the past twenty-five-years; but still Josse cries, “850, 850. . . you’re mid-sweet words, you don’t care a bit, what happens to us — we’re in such danger, why do you speak without feeling, don’t you love me, Claire?”

#November Notes Day 26: Poem – Lauranelle – “Honestly, I Love You”#amwriting #poetry #dVerse

November Notes Day 26 is the song “I’m Confessin’ ” by Liz Wright. I’m combining the prompt with Paul Scribbles #dVerse Poet’s Pub Prompt on the Word grace.

I’m Confessin'” by Liz Wright

Love is my confession, do you love me too?

I’m confessing I need you, even when I lie.

Honestly, I love you, everyday I do.

It’s hard, I’m not prone to feelings, I don’t cry —

But each moment you’re gone away a tear slips —

Falls down my cheek; I sigh at the offending eye.

In your strange oceanic orbs I fall, drift —

Into bliss, I long for your sweet velvet lips,

So, grace me the truth, love with more than a kiss.

Everything about you, your smile, your chin’s slight dip —

Makes me alive; longing to be close to your skin,

To exist in words of love, my heart leaps, dives, and flips.

Whenever you’re near, your words of love are sin,

I don’t know if I’m dreaming — feeling so misplaced.

Tell me exactly, all your love confessions.

Don’t leave me lost, let me know your graciousness;

Honestly, I love you — say it too, don’t lie,

Keep loving me for all time, graceful choose faith–

Love so, we can live life, believing our love,

Is something infinite, existent from above.

Love is my confession, do you love me too?

Honestly, I love you, everyday I do.

“Tethered” by Sleeping at Last

Remember when we were tethered together by the sea and we tied strings around our fingers, promising to love and live by the ocean forever, to never leave. But time has raced on, we’re still lovers but in this frozen city tying to be brave, to breath normally in a world — where loaded guns are forever a threat. We can untangle each other’s knots, warm each other when we’re shivering cold, but the threats are always present, beside us, in the streets, near the playgrounds; soldiers serving a dictator, bright red berets making me yearn for the ocean where we first enlaced our lives — I want that life for us again.

Like the Wind” by Triosence Ft. Sara Gazarek

Writing is like the wind,

Spiralling chimes into motion,

It uplifts the tired soul;

As the wind, inspiration can be touched,

It’s ethereal, invisible;

Yet, you sense it as it flies through you — around you;

You can’t say it doesn’t exist as like many things —

It’s a matter of faith;

Supported by first, seemingly tenuous strings that many attempt to ignore —

To dissuade you from;

But although they maybe tenuous, these slender strings are mighty,

Their stout pillars support belief in your God given abilities.

Somehow, talent and imagination swirl and form into the plausible, the possible —

When you close your eyes and write.

Imagination is full of wonder, beauty, joy, and love of creativity flowing —

Winding, spinning as wind chimes sing a chorus.

Faith is the core of everything —

It’s love of God and belief that He guides us,

The symphony director composing, omniscient;

That such as each instrument and voice,

We all have a purpose.

And when our pens and tablets call us,

It doesn’t matter what it’s called;

Just that we know and trust what is greater than us —

The unseen — both in the art of writing and in the vast celestial.
