#NaPoWriMo Day 23: Poem — Free Verse — “Duck-Billed Platypus Thief” #amwritingpoetry

For NaPoWriMo Day 23 the prompt is:

“Taking a cue from Bishop, I’d like to challenge you today to write a poem about an animal. If you’d like to take a look at some other poems for inspiration, you might like James Dickey’s “The Dusk of Horses,” or Tennyson’s “The Eagle.””

Credit: http://www.wearessecondunion.com

Curious duckbilled thief, I caught you stealing time,

You peeped, squealed, rolled into corners where no one could peep.

Your black-eyes are wide, fluffy innocence peers back.

And your tiny lashes flick, as you hide within fur,

The jingle of coins jolts you, they roll ’round your tummy.

A Crown falls to the floor, you’re off running — to save what’s left of your treasure.

You’re sure no one will catch you– this time you’ve got us beat.

The royal jewels are in your fur-folds somewhere,

You’re a petty pad-foot, harmless, too snuggly for words;

You’re an armful of trickster; you hate being caught.

When I demand my wallet, my cash, and watch,

You cock your coal-dark head,

Perhaps, you didn’t know they were there at all? (You imply).

Tucked under belly rolls, in corners, and squishy edges,

I sigh, take back my treasure, hold out my hand, you chirp —

Duck billed platypus, creature of mole (some other beasts I imagine too).

Your thieveries a whimsy, but no ones fooled,

All you love is gold, silver if you must . . .

You’ll catch it in a sec, a poof of magic dust.

Your duckbilled lips smile, as you scamper down the stairs,

Yet, the things you hold dear, are the most worthless wares.

You need a lady friend,

For her thievery includes not just gold,

But, your platypus heart too!

“These mountains you are carrying, you were only supposed to climb.” Najwa Zebian

They’re mountains that weigh, on my heart to slay;

To grieve me despite, all that’s suffered mute.

Pains of malice crawling, with pincers raze.

My eyes wander, collide with yours for clues.

How can we escape this unending hike?

Death march, end unknown; follow the leader.

Or, slip away through vapid mindless might;

Catch melodic tweets, delight a dreamer.

Let not endless trees’ tangle– no ‘good-death’;

Let not poison Venus shrill;

wildcat’s bite.

Leave heat-exhaustion, shallow fettered breath,

Pincers lingering, swipe through brushes –fight.

For we’re warriors fierce, Amazonian’s who thrive;

Not aimless birds, astray in shallow wilds.

Notable Quotes: Part One, December 2018 #notablequotes #pinterest #quotes

Welcome, this is late, better late than never I suppose. This week is my last Steeped Tea Event for December, except maybe Boxing Day. My last 2018 charity event is Monday, called the ‘Snowflake Ball’ for a children’s hospital wing, in the University Hospital in my city. I’m excited, but I know it will be a long one by the end of the night. Enjoyable too. There are so many worthy causes out there and I love that I can be apart of them. Looking forward to the fashion at this one too.

I have a couple of stops left to Christmas shop before the 24th, & also Christmas baking, cards, and special foods, those kinds of things to prepare once work is done for awhile. This year has turned out to be so different than many other years. Both, in ways I’m glad about and also in taking giant leaps — I’m still in the process of figuring life out. I wish this involved writing more, but I’ve gained experience in other areas I hope will be useful in the future. Here and there I get to write a poem, and comment. These are the most relaxing times for me. Sometime I will have a lot more to say then, what I can say right now. But it’s been a good year — answered prayers, and time to catch up on some quotes.

#OctPoWriMo Day 24/ Saturday Mix: Poem -Quadrille – “Winged Flight” #amwritingpoetry #SaturdayMix

For OctPoWriMo Day 24 the prompt is based on opening. Combining with Saturday Mix, Opposing Forces. Today’s words are Our words this week are: simple and complicated, and vowel and consonant

Open the gates,

Explain walls, deception;

Explain complicated questions.

Hurt riveting our senses,

Failing daily, but still–

Church-bells chime with consonance;

Symphonic Jubilee.

Perhaps, you’ll heal?

Our worlds will collide, amplified.

Perhaps, you’ll comprehend?

Torn butterfly wings;

Silent assonance screamed.

Featherless despite hope’s,

Winged flight.

Notable Quotes: October 2018 Part One #notablequotes #quotes #pinterest #poetry

Welcome to officially Autumn/Fall, maybe Winter or Spring? Here, in Alberta, we never know. Yesterday was November blizzardy, today is a warm fall day from say, in late-September. And next week, we are up in the double-digits (Celsius), which is more early September weather, not late-October.

So, in this weather battle we either freeze as yesterday, or are boiling hot. There’s no in-between and the thermostat’s confused. But, I’m told its an El Nino year so we should have a warm winter for the rest of season (burst out laughing).

Otherwise, I’m still doing a bit of freelance writing and proofreading. I’m looking to eventually have time to work on a final draft of my novel to submit it. I went to a writers conference for in August and had a successful pitch, and I would love to submit it to that agent/publisher. But currently, writing/editing time for my novel is a dream as I spend much time starting up my Steeped Tea business and getting into a routine. Also, I am looking for a great apartment in a certain of the city near to my friends and family.

I never thought after my health problems that this could be a possibility. I need something small right now, and I’m hoping to pick up more freelance work that pays decent, even if its administration, and to support myself as securely as possible until I can work more hours, and buy a place with money from my disability settlement, last year. I’m shocked to be at this place in my life, to have some kind of independence. I know it will be harder than home and more expensive for sure, but I’m still excited. Almost, as if I’m 23-years old again.

So, that’s life lately, and I hope you guys enjoy my October quotes. The first set is a bit late in coming.

#OctPoWriMo Day 7/ Sunday Writing Prompt: Poem – Bop – “ Courage to Thrive” #amwritingpoetry #SundayWritingPrompt

For OctPoWriMo Day 7, the Prompt is unsent letters. I suppose this could be an unsent letter to myself.

I’m also combining with MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie’s Sunday Writing Prompt based on a collage and quote.

Courage Does Not Always Roar, Sometimes Courage is the Quiet Voice at the End of the Day Saying I will try again tomorrow.” — Mary Anne Radmacher

Credit: MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie

Courage is a voice that defies dread nights,

Beats obstacles with endurance, not might.

It’s the tears that drip down cheeks in tissues,

To be tossed, as a calm relief finds lift.

Courage is wisdom, despite naysayers;

Those disbelievers those jaded players.

Courage whispers, keep on going, you’ll thrive.

So past cracked wood and rusty nails I jump;

No matter, with each step forward fear thumps.

My mind scatters as the bumps grow louder;

But, I must keep walking, fears gasped aloud,

For I can’t be afraid I must cartwheel;

Beyond worries circling thoughts as I bleed.

I’m not scared; I know what I must do and not —

Slay Grendel, those demons eschewed, that rot.

Courage whispers, keep on going, you’ll thrive.

It’s a talent, knowing when to back down,

When angels morph into monsters to drown.

It’s not their whole, but apart of them lost;

Yet, the battle-lines are drawn — so I cross.

Past lush greenery, sunlight blazing high,

Into newness, uncertainties despised.

Courage whispers, keep on going, you’ll thrive.

Notable Quotes: August Part Two #amwriting #pinterest #quotes #notablequotes

Almost the end of August. I’m sad, but excited! I think if Autumn as the beginning of the year in many ways. Unfortunately, our rather hot weather has turned cool quickly, and it’s not a good sign. But, either way, I think new beginnings are a good thing. Any plans for Fall?

Hope in the Air (I Speak Because I Can” by Laura Marling

Time’s a limited but precious present,

So, never squander it so hesitant.

Don’t be an old man with words lost to the sea,

Say what you truly mean, set your soul free.

Don’t let the end come your wasp’s tongue too numb,

Don’t fear my next visit, your mind and ears dumb.

Learn — never forget to hope against hope;

Spend not life somber, your last line’s aren’t wrote.

Hope’s Air and Water; your doorway to Home.

Men may fall graceless when easily provoked,

They’ll stumble, choke as life’s gift is revoked.

Death’s the end for all, one day the reaper;

Face me not with fear, I’m your soul’s keeper.

I come not with curses for those who’ve kept faith,

I’m no doom-ridden creeper nor dark wraith.

So, fear me not, live your life full and whole;

Shrink not — fear your evil deeds, those woeful.

Hope’s Air and Water; your doorway to Home.

So, don’t give in; pull your boots up, hold —

Onto your candle, its flame’s spreading bold.

I can’t save a soul, with good deeds or gold,

I can share His light; it burns but He’ll mold —

You up-right when your wax melts, and you wane.

Before it’s done believe, gleam bright with God’s hope.

Hope’s Air and Water; your doorway to Home.
