#OctPoWriMo Day 17/Photo Challenge: Poem – “Lay Down Your Guns” #amwritingpoetry #PhotoChallenge

For OctPoWriMo Day 17 the Prompt is Madness Reigns. I’m combining with NEKNEERAJ from MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie Photo Challenge. Inspired by Joyrose’s piece It’s Not Rocket Science!

World builder, psycho destroyer

With your purple-pits for eyes,

You black-eyed raven with pitiless guise.

Hiding your intentions,

You cannot snatch them back — nevermore.

You are wicked madness in destruction,

Shedding humanity, no magic world-builder, but you could’ve been.

You could’ve been eloquence or passion,

Most of all you could’ve been sweet-grass alive.

There are a lot of should haves,

Could haves that might have been.

But it comes down to what is, what was —

A descent into wretched madness, no logic nor reason.

Reason so convoluted it reigns hellfire,

Bullets from a gun, shots ricochet, echo in the synagogue.

Flesh squelching, screams, oaths muttered, defiling God’s alter;

You reaped havoc, chaos unleashed.

You were meant to be loved, to persevere;

No to blame others — to forgive.

For we each share responsibility for what we’ve all done;

And we don’t always know the consequences,

How far reaching are actions ripple as stones tossed.

But there are times we’re cognizant,

And some of us, still, desire that the world burn.

Erupt into millions of Hanukkah flames,

The sacred hanukkiyah candles spilled — desolation.

Now we mourn your disaster intended,

Now we mourn children,

Now we mourn families.

You are chaos, pandemonium released.

You did not find absolution,

Only a cause you shouldn’t have killed for.

We all carry our burdens, rocks in our bellies.

We haul them around, as third-world children starving,

Infested with parasites, with death.

Now, the grieving are yoked in disbelief,

And you’re lost endless in the bleak.

No more guns and glory, no more madness;

Help those who need help find it —

Help them not into chaos descend.

Aid those on the edge,

Before off the canyon’s ledge they dive,

Boulders splintering life, bodies of tree husks;

Cut short with a whispered litany.

A Rabbi’s murmured blessings — some people’s last zenith;

Having only ‘just,’ enough time, before their candle flickers.

Rises with smoke, ashes, and incense;

This malice and hatred’s a repetitive cycle — ‘so,’ we beg:

Lay down your guns.

Lay down your guns.

Lay down your guns.

#OctPoWriMo Day 16/Three Line Tales: Poem — “Might Time’s Ten” #amwritingpoetry #3LineTales

For OctPoWriMo Day 16 the Prompt is Catch Me When I Fall. Also, thanks to Sonya of Only 100 Words for hosting #3LineTales.

Today’s prompt is Catch Me When I Fall. Finding that person who will support you at every turn is such an important part of any relationship. Also significant is what happens after the fall. How would you describe the balance between giving support and receiving it?

Lakeland country, artistic installation — imposition,

Swimming past carvings,

Totem poles, spirits guiding home.

*****

Murky fog, crippling cat feet,

Lurking towards us;

We’re invincible, we hold on.

*****

We don’t crash and implode,

We douse flames;

Together we’ve might times ten.

#OctPoWriMo Day 15/Photo Challenge/Saturday Mix: Poem – Italian Sonnet – “Higher Ground” #amwritingpoetry #SaturdayMix #PhotoChallenge

For OctPoWriMo Day 15 the Prompt is based around Umbrellas. Also, I’m combining with NEKNEERAJ of MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie’s Photo Challenge and Sarah from MindLoveMisery’s Saturday Mix based on Opposing Forces and the opposite word-pairs: harvest and plant, and lower and raise.

Credit: Kayla Erin.

I meant to use an umbrella — I failed,

The rain kept pouring, I couldn’t escape.

Thought this flood a dream raised; it was too late,

To escape the rising waters’ cold, and hail.

Our harvest, sea enveloped; I was pail.

Adrift in the Atlantic, no sails;

Waves engulfed all we planted, none were safe.

I bawled, darkness swallowed our home place.

I prayed, I shouted; the whole of me railed.

No umbrella could save a girl from disaster.

I swam swift as I quivered, believed —

In myself, hoped I still had a chance.

To survive despite wretched nature’s dance.

Then, on higher ground, flooding lowered, I —

Grabbed a steeple, a cross; prayed my thanks, sighed.

#OctPoWriMo Day 13/100 Word Wednesday: Poem – Blitz – “Pressure Engraved” #amwritingpoetry #100WordWordWednesday

For OctPoWriMo Day 13 the Prompt is If I We’re You. Also, I’m combining with 100 Word Wednesdays from Bikurgurl’s Photo Prompt.

Are there things you sometimes need to get off your chest? When was the last time you felt strongly that someone needed to see things from your point of view? I think this prompt lends itself perfectly to a Blitz Poem.

Such pressure rising as the dim lake drowns

Putrid water invades mr lungs, crushes my chest

Chest choking salt-water terrified

Chest rasping with each tiny breath

Breath weighted with ocean filth

Breath that’s sticky, wet, toxic

Toxic fears cripple my legs, tire-out hands treading

Toxic fears of the half-dead: I’m gasping

Gasping, a dumbbell crushing my lungs

Gasping as I let out deep breathes to cleanse

Cleanse my spirit of skin shivering

Cleanse my heart of this stress-inducing love

Love that drowns and makes me whole

Love that lets me finally find

Find a blissful beach without monstrous waves

Find a warm place on the sand to sleep

Sleep, I yearn for it as banshees screech

Sleep, I beg for it as the predators howl

Howl as I quiver, biting my nails

Howl as my courage trickles away– I’m outwitted

Outwitted by breathless panic, desperate pain

Outwitted, the Minotaurs talons clawing my neck

Neck enwrapped with silken scarves choking

Neck bundled beneath feather-silk, dreams killing

Killing me softly, these life-altering responsibilities

Killing me softly, these rigid expectations

Expectations you hold of I so meek

Expectations you hold, not understanding —

Understanding I’m a pins width from crashing

Understanding how with difficulty, I have strived

Strived to be where I am

Strived to be myself and arise

Arise, but not to discover I’m disadvantaged

Arise, but not to ignore my intuitive doubts

Doubts as steel wool scratches

Doubts as I’m carried out by the tide in the storm’s silence

Silence, if only for a moment I can collapse

Silence, self-care to reforge my walls

Walls of back-breaking stone, tough alloys

Walls that keep the creatures harming at bay, to —

To keep me safe, crippled shoulders un-tensed

To keep my bastion strong, so I can lay me down

Lay me down without your vise-like grip engraved

Lay me down to recover, before I rise to respire and inhale

Gripping my hands, crescent marks engraved

No trembling stress shocking, only mountain air to inhale.

#OctPoWriMo Day 14/100 Word Wednesday: Poem – Free Verse – “ A Safety Net” #amwritingpoetry #100WordWednesday

For OctPoWriMo Day 14 the Prompt is If I Were Me. Also, combing with Bikurgurl’s #100WordWednesday.

Ask yourself, “If I were me…” what would that look like? Who are you really? Have you lost yourself in being a mother, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, father?

Ask for the world, typify me,

Take advantage or carve my insides;

Pumpkin gutted.

I’ve chosen to take, the high road, to believe —

To have faith.

Not to see, things not there.

To reveal the truth,

Even though, curiosity may kill me.

But I’ll be damned if I don’t configure the puzzle pieces;

I’m a writer, I love a good mystery.

So, weave me a tale and I’ll unbind it thread by thread;

Only to see it’s trembling core, where light reveals the mayhem.

I wish for sunlight, carved tables with Zinfandel,

A place to write, you next to me;

No suffocation, no squeezing in my chest,

My liberty not at stake.

Complications, deviations, things I never expected;

Truth and disbelief collide as dynamite splashes.

I am the wind, I am the great detective,

No laudanum needed to dull the senses or to dream.

I am the Amazon and I am Alice,

Slipping back into Wonderland.

And I’ve discovered that beneath facades,

Can lie a beast with scales and teeth.

Slithering, slick, slime of rust,

Questionable creature, Adam’s fall —

Eve’s mistrust; and if I can’t have all the details,

Assemble words into some order,

My decisions might break not only I,

But lives lie in the balance.

One who needs, so I must give,

Because my Lord said give all you can;

And even if you’re wrong,

Heaven will be your table in the sunlight,

Where you can write and find tranquility:

The ambience of love.

If I Were Me,

Who knows,

For she is constantly moulded,

Her Creator’s hands her safety net.

Poem: Free Verse – “Knowing Why” #amwritingpoetry #GDGC

My latest offering at The Go Dog Go Cafe. Take a look! 😊💕

Go Dog Go Café

I don’t know why there’s disease,
Why cells kill each other.
Why our immune systems turn,
Or our brains suck too much cortisol;
Too little or too much Seratonion.
I don’t know why the world’s fractured,
And all these bad things terribly matter.
I don’t know why we love, but love’s pain too.
If it’s so real, why do we sacrifice part of ourselves, to satisfy someone who loves us — for being us?
Why do men and women cheat?
It takes two or one, at least.
I don’t know why the world’s jaded,
Why children are destructive.
Why they wish each other dead —
And parents permit such hate.
Why they don’t know say,
Love your sister or your brother —
Apologize or sit in the corner.
I don’t know why we love each other, for our faults.
Why we hate each other for our…

#OctPoWriMo Day 11/Sunday Writing Prompt: Poem — Octelle — “Avoiding the Cracks” #amwritingpoetry #MLMM

For OctPoWriMo Day 11, the Prompt is falling through the cracks. Also, I’ve combined with MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie Sunday Writing Prompt based on a Rudyard Kipling Poem called “If . . .”

Your soulmate wasn’t supposed to be perfect. You were meant to see the cracks in her soul and fill them with what you have and she was meant to see yours. Together you would be complete.” Shannon L. Alder

“If . . .” By Rudyard Kipling

It’s difficult for men to see,
We’re all cracked with faults daft, costly.
It’s difficult to admit we fall,
That we can’t tread through life evolved;
Not noting where the sidewalk bends,
Without the aid of our good friends.
What makes a man, it’s hard to know,
What makes a woman, do you know?
*****
But for both genders, patience works,
When those near find fault in our quirks.
If you remain trustworthy,
Despite others doubt’s swerving;
And consider their judgment still.
If you forget their lies and wills,
Focused on themselves, and choose truth,
You’ll avoid sidewalk cracks; the uncouth.
*****
It’s easier to forget hate,
To face it, but act with graciousness.
To have wisdom, but not force —
With advice for others; ignore —
Their destructive plans, their schemes,
Learn instead to master dreams.
Think with discernment, avoid cracks,
Don’t get caught up in silly spats.
*****
Be wise in triumph, and stay calm —
When disaster imposes wrongs.
While others misconstrue words —
You’ve spoken; if they’re perturbed,
Ignore the traps of fools and knaves.
See as they fall through the cracks, waves —
That drown them, as you find shore,
Keep going, rebuild; them ignore.
*****
Hold on with all you have inside,
Life’s no elegant first class ride.
Things look up, than they swivel,
Until you’re trapped within riddles.
Hold on to hope, know all men count.
Let none slide through society,
Not without amiability
*****
Your are the sun; you are not cracked.
Those your glow touches, keeps you on track.
You’re the sun lighting the world,
Yours is the world as it fast whirls.
You are the stars sharing your sheen;
Nebulas bursting seams,
So, keep avoiding sidewalk cracks,
Keep gliding on air, and there bask.

#OctPoWriMo Day 12/ Three Line Tales: Lunes – “Conflicted” #amwritingpoetry #3LineTales

For OctPoWriMo Day 12 the Prompt is torture. I’m combing with Sonya from Only 100 Words, #3LineTales.

Credit: Ernest Brillo via Unsplash.

I’m not the Candle who’ll,

Burn because you,

You’ve no solace; no heat.

*****

But I can see your gnarled,

Exit-wounds, scars;

Twisted, wrecked, ashes cindered dust.

*****

I’ll not be abused, fractured —

I’ve exit-wounds;

They were smothered flames too.

*****

I might be warmth, ice —

Everything misconstrued, blighted;

My prayers gut-wrenching torn.

*****

Define truth, straightforward, not confused;

Honesty lashed with,

Toxicity, illusion; unhealed wounds seep.

*****

Heart quickens, pace strong, defiant,

Cornered, smothered, responsibility;

One truth believe, another truth quivers.

*****
