My smile it isn’t real, although I appear happy and unafraid. My smile is goofy and I’m laughing but in reality, I’m quaking inside. Clowns have always frightened me so much I used to have terrible dreams about them even into my teens; so many nights I woke up screaming in horror. My husband doesn’t understand it but standing beside this clown is my worst nightmare and he had better be grateful; it’s not everyday I take a photograph with my the thing I fear the most.

My prison or my home? I shall,

Never know what these empty halls —

Are; if they contain friend or foe,

If they care about me, don’t know.

Married off to a stranger, not unkind, not cruel,

Not a friend, not yet a foe, stately and no one’s fool.

——-

Behind these walls, a sullen keep,

I’m kept, without sunlight’s relief.

My thoughts aren’t considered, nor my —

Opinions valued, I’m defied.

No special princess, just his highnesses wife kept,

Safe from the world, from experience, trapped, bereft.

Where did childhood’s freedom go?

Where are the green fields, wild flowers?

I just want outside but then you’d,

Never find me again, I’d far go —

Back to my father, to a life of freedom glad,

My prison? Tigresses caged attack when mad.

Take me down to the places on hidden —

Paths let’s hike; the lush forest has bidden,

That we heed her wild calls exploring.

Let us find all nooks, crannies, and more,

Let’s find the secrets in this forest,

Masked for centuries, deep secrets unknown.

Search for me where rocks pile high, where I’m free.

This landscape has its hardships it’s paths —

Twisted and sometimes steep, but we climb past —

All obstacles, find glorious treasures.

Unafraid in tranquil woods we measure,

Distances by landmarks, certain trees, —

Curved trunks bowing; see nature’s masterpiece.

Hiking as far as we can, giant rocks near,

Hearing the river’s voice trickling clear.

Search for me where rocks pile high, where I’m free.

At night we lie on air mattresses we’re,

Wrapped in sleeping bags, lost in our dreams.

The river’s language a tongue we know,

Then, the sun is high, breakfast made, we go —

To explore our secret, the enchanted world,

Life is short, peaceful quiet it restores.

Search for me where rocks pile high, where I’m free.
