He walked through the frozen world elated. The trees were silent and still as ice coated their needles. He was satisfied with what he saw, with winter’s permanent hold on this world. He preferred the isolation and tranquility he found in blizzards that howled and the quietness of a world blanked in thickness of snow afterwards.

Every day he walked through his Winter Wonderland satisfied that it’s inhabitants remained mostly indoors, only venturing outside when they had to. Life was a vicious battle for survival here and he was proud to have been the one who initiated this struggle.

Then one morning he walked outside and heard the triumphant roar of a lion; he shivered in fear. He had not heard that roar for milannias. It was the roar that had silenced his mother, that belonged to the beast who ripped out her throat. He felt overly warm, used to frigid cold, feeling furious when he saw that overnight the pine needles of the trees had been freed from their ice cage. The lion roared again and the white prince ran.

  1. Oh wow! This is an amazing tale that needs more! From a regal arrogant prince to someone who then ran away in fear, I am intrigued of the beast that puts such fear in him. I too wrote of an Ice Kingdom for this prompt, those flowers were a lovely inspiration.

    1. If you read Maria’s tale you find we have had similar thoughts. Both are tales that stem from the C.S. Lewis’ s: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. I kind of took mine in a different direction as this is perhaps thousands of years later in Narnia, and the witch or snow queen has son who comes to Narnia to lock it in winter. Aslan;s roar is the roar you here who makes the White Prince afraid as Aslan defeated his mother the, white witch.
Thanks for reading, I really appreciate your comments 🙂

      1. i did think it alluded to Narnia! I had more minuscule thoughts, an ice Thumbelina! But me and snow, always an inspiration to write delicate thoughts. Lovely take M! Just getting back to writing flash, will be reading the rest soon, always pick yours first if its up there!

    1. Hi Jacqueline. Thanks for reading. Indeed he did, somehow being around to see his mother the white witch destroyed by Asian, (the lion) has frightened this prince despite his evilness. Good always conquers 🙂
