Cliche Sunday….

The Meanings of Some Interesting Cliches.

fictionwriterwithablog

…..is back! Apparently, I took the entire week off from this blog (although I did great with Runnerwithablog!) last week. It was an unplanned vacation, but perhaps a needed one as I am full of ideas for the coming week 🙂

Starting with clichés, of course. Being easily influenced, I am going with warfare clichés today–my husband is watching a History channel documentary on WWII at present!

show your true colors: to show who you really are. This one dates back to seafaring days, when ships often flew flags misrepresenting themselves so that they could get closer to the enemy during wartime. Maritime law stated that one must show their true flag before firing. So ships would quickly show their “true color” as soon as they were within firing range.

cold enough to freeze the brass balls off a monkey: some damn cold out. Another ship phrase, this…

Photo Challenge: Poem – Mirrored Sestet – “Fear of Moon” #amwriting #poetry

Thanks to MindLovesMisery’s Menagerie for hosting this tarot prompt of the moon.

——–

World is dim, unconsciousness formed swirls.

Swirls call my mind to odd distant other worlds.

Journey, searching, will I find a place worth,

Worth finding strange people, repeat journey

Cannot do what I need to do, what’s taught

Taught in school, remembered, forget I cannot

——

Always search, but I never find hallways

Hallways leading home, place needed always

Excitement high feeds my  inticements

Inticement lingers, through mass excitement

Words coming from my mouth, words but unheard.

Unheard words, no one understands my words.

——

Dreamscapes, such funny places explored seem

Seem alive but hiding painful dreamscapes

No escape, when you wish to climb, landscapes.

Landscapes change in dreams I find, no escape.

Colourful world, weird place some twisted other —

Other world catches, enfolds, colourful world.

——-

Where am I, that I chase and can’t find there

There? Places which are morphed, a trap, go where?

Placed objects in my hands, details I traced

Traced how they felt before I left replaced

Shimmering full moon glimmering.

Glimmering dark moon shimmering.

——

In dreams the moon it haunts, whispers of sin,

Sins past, present, future not letting in —

Hoping of waking up, tired of fake words spoke.

Spoke from mouths which would never stop hoping.

Here they do, the moon crushing hope with fear.

Fear it rules night, moon glows; yet morn now here

Photo (Collage) Challenge: Poem – Tankas – “The Mountain’s Wrath” #amwriting #poetry

Thank you to MindLovesMisery’s Menagerie for hosting this week’s double prompt:

Laura Bloomsbury

———

Black and white can change,

Become the most flaming bright of —

Colours; yet we’re like —

Dorothy on her Kansas —

Farm, not realizing life is grey.

Never seeing technicolor.

——–

If mountains are but smoke,

No one who said those words knew,

How burning orange and —

Yellow looks when your skin is —

Seared; the mountain spit lava clear.

Blew her top, melted downwards.

——-

On to the town who,

Had little idea but should —

Have known this day,

No technology clued.

Their mountain could release Hell,

Sulphurous smelling, burnt Hell.

—-

Poisonous gases,

Leaking down to the town folk,

No chance had they when,

Ashes fell like snow.

The worst kind of snow signals,

The ire of the mountain’s breath.

——-

In stores, on boardwalks,

Going about their day the same.

When she erupted,

No one cared at first.

But the ash and gases came,

Killing to begin, before —

—–

Lava reached familiar,

Buildings, the library.

Homes, grocery stores, work.

Yet the sky was filled,

She billowed out her smoke rings,

And she was just beginning.

——-

Threy should’ve known to —

Leave earlier but no one,

Takes responsibility;

To late to lay blame.

Run far and fast, lava spews.

Keep going magma flows, kills.

——

No Dante’s Peak is —

This; only mother nature’s,

Roaring and giving,

Life as she takes it.

Many die unaware, don’t see,

Never knew today would be —

The end: waiting done,

Here comes the promised one near.

Yet some survived it.

Never took lightly,

Those words: A Mountain is noth –

ing but smoke — they lived through it.

—–

Those who rebuilt knew,

As the lava and fire burnt their —

Homes, loved ones to crisps.

Beware the mountain;

Geologists trained don’t know,

When she’ll yield furious wrath.

August has come and gone, leaving some of us in anticipation of Winter, and our Southern neighbours for Summer.   “Mix and Mingles,” “Meet & Greet,” “Blog Parties” are a lot like Awards, they’re a fun way to get the word out about your blog, about fellow bloggers and a great networking tool.
