Flash Fiction for the Aspiring Writer: Saving The Puppy

Thank you to Priceless Joy for hosting FFftAW. Let her know what an amazing job she’s doing 🙂

Horse and Car

Sweet Caroline waited for her rider, Joy (who was attending a party at the neighbor’s ranch) when Caroline heard a terrified yap from beside her. It was a heat-sick puppy trapped in a car.

Caroline had heard Joy saying certain people were ignorant, believing it was fine to leave a pet in the car when the temperature was boiling inside.

The puppy whimpered and with all her might, Caroline kicked a window out of the car with her hoof.

Joy ran when she heard the car window shatter and Caroline whiny. She gasped, observing the languishing puppy inside.

Taking both Caroline and the puppy just outside the party tents, Joy gave the thirsty puppy bottled water and scraps of meat from the buffet.

A furious couple Joy recognized, approached her wanting their puppy back, but Joy refused. Instead, she dialled the local RCMP and reported the couple, for leaving their dog in a hot car.

Sweet Caroline nuzzled her puppy friend as the puppy slept on Joy’s shoulder.

Sweet Caroline is a hero! She saved the puppy from dying in a hot car! This is a great story, Mandi! I’m glad the owners didn’t get their puppy back! Thank you so much for the kind compliment! You are a very sweet lady. 🙂

Thank you PJ for the comments on my story and for you own compliment. I enjoy your FF challenges. You always pick out great photos to write about. And Yes Sweet Caroline, did what she had to do 🙂

How fitting for these hot days! And how terrifying to think the puppy could’ve died. She is a hero, and I hope her taking action inspires others (in that fictional world). Excellent story!

Yeah me too. I thought the story a bit cheesy but its an important message. Never ever leave your dog (or child) alone in the car. Thanks Izzy

Caroline and Joy are quite a team. They inform us effectively about the dangers and stupidity of endangering innocent life. I cheer for the moment when the window is knocked out. How many of us want to do this when a pet or child is inside the car?

Yeah I agree Christopher. A couple left their dog in the car when I was at the drugstore the other day. They just went inside but it was quite hot here, and of course hotter in the car. Its hard to know, should we call the cops right away or break a window? When do people learn, especially when its children. Thanks for your comments again 🙂

Thank you. It’s a bit cheesy as you say. But I hate it when people leave their dogs in hot cars 😦

A very important message! I find it just so strange how owners can do that to their pets. Don’t they care? Nice read!

Thank you S. Yes pets and children. It’s cruel. Would they like to be stuck in a hot car for hours, wouldn’t they feel sick in 40 + degree heat, and no fresh air or water?

It’s extremely hot where I live now and I keep hearing story after story on the news about children and animals being left in hot cars. I just heard one on the news last night where a baby was left in the car so the people watching her could go shopping. I don’t get it. Glad this puppy got rescued 🙂

Thanks Jenn. Yeah. I’m not sure why people think this is okay. They hear about it on the news everyday, are constantly warned, but are they deaf? Or do they choose not to hear? Its cruel.

Great story! I’m glad she found the puppy before things got serious. Animals (and children) should never be left in hot cars.

Yes I agree whole-heartedly. I did have kids in there too, but word count was too high. Thanks JA.
