Poem: Italian Sonnet – “Desert and Oasis Art” #introtopoetry #amwriting #sonnet

For the last poetry 101 post the theme is the future, and to he the form of a sonnet. I’m also using The Daily Post prompt words Glass and Desert.

——-

Desert air burns bleeding cracked lips; so slow,

Annoying pain, causing heat stroke quicker.

What’s in the future, dry dust, sand sifting?

Tiny grains grating in my mouth, wind blows.

Does this desert end? Sun baking skin whole?

Am I done penance, my soul much richer?

Water, oasis found; soul weeps bitter.

Are my thoughts real? Or am I dying slow?

——

Future ahead, sandstorms, I see swarming;

Into crystals of glass where artists make,

Such beautiful creations colours forming.

Glass in flowers; blown shapes delicate made.

Where presently, I’m in need of some shade.

Torment cease; dancing, at last, rain storms!

Poem: Florette – “Song of Signs” #wordhighjuly #poetry #amwriting #harana

——-

I’ll sing you music each long night.

Do you hear my voice take flight?

My alto voice rings loud in my ears.

Wish to be there, so you see dear, my notes just right.

——–

You’ll treasure my words, piercing thought.

Can I reach through your veil, you’re aloft.

Stuck inside, where I cannot reach.

No silence but song, I beseech; sign of love sought.

———-

Dusk, lingering in your splendor,

Hope you’ll hear my words crescendo

Problems arise when you see how I sing,

For I am deaf, my songs hand signs ring, my concerto.

——-

Please my love, notice me noiseless,

Signs speak my ardor voiceless.

You gaze through me, my pretty face

Your chosen love’s voice has no grace; my signs joyful.

——

The Florette, created by Jan Turner, consists of two or more 4-line stanzas.

Rhyme scheme: a,a,b,a
Meter: 8,8,8,12

Fourth line requirement of internal (b) rhyme scheme, on syllable 8.

Like the outgrowing of a small flower, the forth line of each stanza is longer, and enwraps the previous lines. Line #4 requires an internal rhyme scheme that rhymes the eighth syllable with the end of line #3, and continues to add on four more syllables than the other lines so that the fourth line ends rhyming with lines #1 and #2.

Flash Fiction for the Aspiring Writer: The Candy Store #flashfiction #amwriting

Phylor

——–

It was an odd store. Adeline, the store owner, insisted only children were allowed to remain inside and make purchases.

Parents would walk in the store and smile when they realized the quaint shop was full of candy, any form of candy which they or their kids craved.

Once meeting the trusted bubbly owner Adeline, parents allowed their kids into the store with their allowance, and often extra money to buy treats for Mom and Dad.

The candy store was within walking distance and parents began letting their kids go whenever they wished.

Sadly, Adeline was not only a candy connoisseur, but a witch. A witch from the same line of witches Hansel and Grettle had bested; but Adeline had learned from her ancestors.

Magic in the candy made parents forget they had kids, who slowly began disappearing after visiting the candy store enough to have fattened up for Adeline’s candy making.

The affects of the magic on the parents wore off months later when they realized their children were gone.

All that remained was a store made of candy.

Adeline had disappeared, moving on to the next town.

A Mixed Bag

——-

“So why exactly did you choose Loddington House Hotel, Uncle? The shipyard view is not a nice one.”

“I like the view.” Chad’s Uncle Sam mumbled.

“Errr, I guess it grows on you . . . What’s that you’re peering at through your binoculars? I think people would be creeped out if they saw a guy looking through his hotel window with those.”

“Well, I’m not a peeping-Tom. It’s the surveillance van. It arrived when we got here exactly and only leaves when we leave.” Uncle Sam muttered.

“Well we’ve hardly left at all. I thought you wanted to come with me to see the University I’m going to be attending. You know, like my Dad would’ve done had he been here.”

“Chad, there are bigger things going on. The same people who killed your Dad are watching us. What I don’t know, is why?”

“Your Dad was in the Marines Chad; it must have to do with him. But what do they want nineteen-years-later? And what are they trying to accomplish by not hiding their van in plain sight?” Uncle Sam wondered.

Chad’s eyes went wide; his face went pale. He had a feeling their troubles were only beginning.
