Flash Fiction for The Purposeful Practitioner: Wrong Horror Movie. #amwriting

“I’m so tired we’ve been driving for hours,” Luc muttered to Felicia.

“Well there’s a motel up ahead. No nevermind. We’re not staying here honey.”

Luc yawned. “I can’t drive anymore tonight. It’s 12:30 a.m.”

“This motel has dusty rooms crawling with roaches and resembles the Bate’s Motel.”

“It’ll be fine you’ll see.” Luc said. He parked the car infront of Reception and came back with a key card. He showed Felicia the key card.

“I’ll sleep in the damn car. If you’re still alive in the morning I’ll come in and shower.”

“If you’re sure,” Luc said. “Want to see it first?” Felicia remained mute.

Luc opened room 62 which was surprisingly clean and modern. The beds and linens were new and the bathroom had been renovated.

He thought about getting Felicia but Luc was also fond of stretching out in a bed to himself.

It was 8:00 am when Luc received a knock on his room door. “Sir are you Luc Rareson?” A grisly state trooper asked.

“Yes,” Luc said tentivily.

“Is this your car?” The trooper pointed to a black SUV, half covered up.

“Yes, my girlfriend was sleeping in there. She refused to sleep in the room.”Luc said ashen.

“What’s your girlfriend’s name Mr. Rareson?”

“Felicia Mayer, where is she? What happened to her?”

“I’m sorry to tell you this sir but Felicia Mayer was murdered in your car last night.” The trooper said gently.

Tears leaked out Luc’s eyes.”I should’ve made her stay inside the room. I should’ve insisted.”

“We have the individual who murdered Felicia in custody. He won’t tell us his real name. He was wearing an old goalie mask from hockey and says his name is Jason Voorhees.”

“Are you kidding me?” Luc sobbed.

“No,” the state trooper said.”Ironically enough, today is Friday May 13.”

I suppose genre awareness won’t save you if you don’t know exactly what horror story you’re in. Excellent twist!

Thank you JA. I couldn’t get Bate’s Motel out of my head so had to do something with it 🙂

Never judge a place from the outside alone.
    Brilliant story.
Do not really know the horror story references though.

Thank you. Norman Bate’s the lead character from the classic horror movie Psycho; hence, the Bate’s Motel reference. Jason is the killer from the horror series ‘Friday the 13th.’

Oh dear! Poor guy, he’ll feel guilty for a really long time! Great story! ☺

Yeah I think he will. But I guess she was being argumentative and he he was tired from driving. I can’t blame him honestly. Any other time, he and she would have been okay. He didn’t know they were in a horror movie and not with Norman Bate’s, or Luc would’ve been dead.

When he finally went to sleep I think was when I knew there was going to be a turn. Or maybe I wasn’t so clever–maybe it was when I read that he had woken up the next morning (still alive). Creative, clever writing!

Haha. Yeah, it does seem he will be hurt, but wrong horror movie. That’s the twist. Thank you for reading 🙂

Felicia should have gone inside 🙂 But, yeah Luc should have told her to come in. Nice story. I love old scary movies like Psycho.

Thanks Jenn. Happy you enjoyed. Yeah, I think Luc should have came and brought her in when he saw the motel room was new and comfortable. But on the other hand, maybe he was really tired from driving all day and didn’t have it in him to fight with her to come in. Usually, tour girlfriend wouldn’t get murdered in your car. They didn’t know they were living in a horror story, which one exactly 🙂

Great story! I wasn’t expecting that kind of ending though, which made a terrific twist! Sad that a bit of stubbornness can end up causing you to get murdered. Too bad she didn’t at least check out the room first to see what it looked like. And, he will always be reminded of that night every time he stays in a motel.

Yep, they both were being silly. But just a regular couple thing. I think we forget that when she ends up bring murdered. It’s unexpected. Hind site is 20/20. Plus, it was horror genre and either he died in the room via a Psycho like killer. Or she died in the car from Jason of the Friday the 13th movies. Better twist to kill her. Thanks for commenting Jessie..

Wrong horror story indeed! Very clever twist! My eyes literally went wide when I read the second half of the story.
