Poem: Ethree – “Helpers”

Thanks to The Daily Post for the word prompt help.

We

Try to

Be of help,

Sometimes we are,

A hindrance,

But I was told once that,

If we’re able to give our aid,

We shouldn’t hesitate to,

Do only what we are commanded,

Love your neighbour as yourself; help them out!

But not everyone acts to help us,

Some would rather see us fail — bleed,

People aren’t always nice in life,

At times they send us tumbling,

Sometimes we fall down far,

But in the worst

Look, true —

Helpers,

Act.

    1. Thanks for your thoughts PJ. I came across on the quote on Facebook after the terrorist attacks at the Boston Marathon. Makes you think even though there are always people working against us, there are always people looking to help in a good way too.

  1. It’s actually saddening when we think that there are really people whose hearts are darkened with ill thoughts for others. That’s just horrible.
Lovely poem Mandi. There are true helpers and God will always lead us to the right ones if we ever need them.

  2. Helpers,
    Act.

I happen to be in the land of Mister Rogers. His hometown and from where his episodes were broadcast. You found a terrific quotation to share. Even better (I think Fred Rogers would agree) is your verse treatment of the choice to help. It’s true that “not everyone acts to help.” “We shouldn’t hesitate to,” though, is truer. Thanks, Mandi!
