Flash Fiction for the Purposeful Practitioner: You Leave, I’m not.

“The last time, everything fit in three duffles…” well, was never. I mean I have been collecting memorabilia in a trunk since I was a baby.

My apartment has books I am not willing to give up. It is a place to do my makeup and style my hair. It has a mini office, the refinished desk near the front door. The papers I’ve organized to do with taxes and health benefits are all there. The bedroom has our built in closet and dressers filled with my clothes, purses, and shoes.

You are aware living in Canada you need clothes for at least three seasons? Winter being the worst because sweaters, winter coats, and boots take up a great deal of space.  And when the weather is warm you need various kinds of shoes dependant on the occasion.

What about the furniture I made-over with my time and talent? What about the bed I purchased with sheets, pillows, and a duvet and covers? What about the lamps, couches, and curtains? The appliances and electronics?

You want me to go. . . it’s my apartment. I lived here first. You want me to fit everything in those three duffle bags. You’re crazy. You can’t make me leave, that’s your job man whore… (shove). Oh, you fell and hit your head on the stairs. Call your own ambulance.

I love how you can sense her anger throughout the piece, even though she’s only listing her possessions. She has clearly had enough of his antics – good for her!

Haha. Yes, well she is furious. It’s her apartment with all her stuff in and he wants her to leave after he’s been having an affair. So, hopefully he is well enough to call one. She’s too angry at him:) thanks for your comment.

Being from Michigan, I could entirely relate to the part about needing an excessive amount of clothes for winter! Three duffles? No way! She’s right to get rid of him! 🙂

Thank you for reading and your comments. I always find no matter how often I go through my wardrobe, my closets/dressers are still full or fill up, even if I haven’t shopped a lot. I will be happy when spring is here. The ground hog comes out this week, I guess we will see.

Yes, I think so. But I do think she’s angry but will probably help him anyways. She is kind of caught in the heat of the moment. Thanks for reading.

She seems so nice but is really nasty. She doesn’t seem to care that he’s hurt. Great story.

I think it depends on your view. He cheated on her and was trying to kick her out of her home, a place she put together and poured her sweat and blood into to make it look nice etc. She is mad at him forsure. But I’m pretty sure she slams the door and calls the ambulance anyways. Anger makes you say things and do things in the heat of the moment you don’t mean. Plus, he’s not a nice guy at all.

He sure has a nerve thinking she should be the one to move out! Good for her for standing up to him and setting him straight. Great story. 🙂

Thank you. Yes, he cheated he’s out. It was her home, he moved into.
